Yesterday (Tuesday) I started FireFox and it said there was an update, so I clicked on it to install. Then, when I again tried to use FireFox, I got this message when I clicked on my shortcut. XULRunner. Platform version is not cmpatible with MinVersion 1.9.2.4. How do I fix this? Currently, I'm using Explorer to access the internet. I tried your live chat and didn't get a response (tried twice) waited 30 mins each time.

This happened

Every time Firefox opened

Chosen solution

Try a clean reinstall:

  1. Download the Firefox installer from Mozilla.com and save it to your desktop or other location.
  2. Make sure that Firefox is closed completely
  3. Delete the Firefox installation directory (On Windows, this is typically the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder that contains "firefox.exe" and other Firefox program files and folders).
  4. Reinstall Firefox by running the installer you downloaded previously.

Your personal settings, including bookmarks and history, will not be lost.

Thanks so much for the accurate info. I had thought that this was what I would have to do, however, was not sure. The instructions were right on. I am now reconnected, and, after using Internet Explorer for a couple of days, I really appreciate FireFox more. After being used to your speed for connections, I found Internet Explorer to be very slow and ponderous.

My problem is, that I can't download anything from Mozilla, because my internet explorer has stopped working at the same time although I'm well connected to the internet. Can anybody help me???

I have the XUL Runner Platform version not compatible problem.

I uninstalled Firefox, I then deleted everything in the Program Files\Mozilla Firefox directory and its subdirectories. I then ran the 3.6 installer, but problem has not been fixed.

I would appreciate some help with this. I can not use Firefox at all, and am therefore unfortunately reliant on IE.

Thanks Kevingtonbeare

Did this, did not work for me. Bummer.

Executed Plan B (re-do the delete the Firefox program directories and re-install from a fresh download of the installer program) and now everything works again. Equilibrium and Jove has been restored.

I wrote too soon. The very next time I tried to run Firefox, the problem re-appeared. I will try to install an earlier version, and turn off automatic updates.

If you have the problem with the ini file then you may have a problem with security software that is protecting ini files like application.ini and restores an old copy.

Your post may hold the key to the problem. In short: I turned off ZoneAlarm, deleted the Firefox directory from Program Files, and re-installed. Firefox ran OK. Closed Firefox and opened it again. I ran OK the second time. Closed Firefox, turned on ZoneAlarm, re-ran Firefox and got the error, the image of which accompanies this post.

Here is the .ini file after running Firefox with ZoneAlarm running:

[App] Vendor=Mozilla Name=Firefox Version=3.6.12 BuildID=20101026210630 SourceRepository=http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-1.9.2 SourceStamp=8fe44c79dfd1 Copyright=Copyright (c) 1998 - 2010 mozilla.org ID={ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}

[XRE] EnableProfileMigrator=1 EnableExtensionManager=1

And here is the .ini file with Firefox installed and run with ZoneAlarm not running:

[App] Vendor=Mozilla Name=Firefox Version=3.6.12 BuildID=20101026210630 SourceRepository=http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-1.9.2 SourceStamp=8fe44c79dfd1 Copyright=Copyright (c) 1998 - 2010 mozilla.org ID={ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}

I think I have the pattern of this problem. It rears its ugly head whenever I have Zonealarm Extreme Security running. Stop Zonealarm, run Firefox, and all runs well.

I did as suggested, removing FireFox in the "windows way" (using W7). Shutdown, restart, went and removed the folder from program files then run CCcleaner. Reinstalled from web, all is fine. Did not need to shutdown Zone alarm at all.

I get the platform error message but 6.0 not compatible with minVersion >= 6.0.2 & maxVersion<=6.0.0. I can only run firefox if I shut down ZoneAlarm then bring up firefox, and restart ZoneAlarm. I hope this gives somebody a clue to what's going on and maybe there is a fix somewhere. I guess I'll try the clean install next.

That is a problem with Virtualization that ZoneAlarm Extreme Security implements.
If that feature is causing problems then you need to disable it (temporarily) or ask advice at the ZoneAlarm forum.
