Hi, Why do I have to click twice in a row on a message in the trash that I want to delete? This is how I do it: The message is moved to the trash and should be deleted from there. I mark the message in the trash and then click once on Delete at the bottom right. A window appears asking if I really want to delete. I then click once on Delete and neither the window nor the message disappears. Only when I click on Delete a second time do the window and the message disappear from the trash. What could be the reason for this and how can I fix it? Thank you for a useful answer. I don't have much experience with IT and Thunderbird. Regards Manfred

1) I get an email from (email@x) asking me to send information to (email address) 2) So I send an email to (email@x). I save this in Thunderbird 3) I then get a new message from (email@x) which asks me again to send the information in my previous email. This means they probably didn't receive the email sent in 2) or they didn't read it. 4) I click on reply to their message received in 3). I then want to attach the email which I sent previously in 2).

I cannot click on attach and select the email sent in 2) (which is saved in Thunderbird). I can of course click on the email sent in 2) and forward as an attachment, but I want it to be an attachment to the reply in 4) not a new email.

How should I proceed?

This site has been very helpful to me. I thank you and I have a new question now that my e-mail is operational. I am a New York Times digital subscriber. As such I am allowed to gift a certain number of articles each month. Today when I tried to do that I was given a choice of paths for sending articles, Gmail and a few more with an option for other. But I don't know what to tell the New York Times as to how I want to be hooked to Thunderbird as the vehicle for gifting my allotted articles to others. Can someone help? Thank you, Doug

Hi, I have a problem with my gmail account. It works on laptop, but same settings on pc doesn't let me send emails. The incoming emails on pc are ok, but when I try to send the email Mozilla says that "login on server smtp.gmail.com with my email address was not succeed". It doesn't help to try once more or to delete and reinstall the account. When I installed the gmail to Mozilla on laptop, I must accept it on Googles site, but my pc seems to remember old settings and they are wrong. An image attached. Hilkka

I have moved from Mailbird to Thunderbird, a pat on my back I am really satisfied. I use POP3 so all my emails are downloaded to my computer. I keep two years of incoming and sent emails in Local Folders as follows: email account 1 year 2023 > Folders and subfolders organized per topic year 2022 > Folders and subfolders organized per topic The same for three other accounts. These occupy a lot of disk space, so I want to archive each email account with its folders and subfolders and move them to an external drive. Is this possible with Thunderbird? Somehow I was running an unsupported ver 129 on a Win 10 system, not sure how. I was getting a warning message at startup. I decided to install the latest supported ver 128. I did that over the ver I was running and did not save, export or rename anything. Just one install over the other. I have lost my calendar that I spent months building. Did I lose it? Any possibility it is still around hiding somewhere? Help please, but I am prepared for the worst for being hasty in my decision. Cheers, TR

For the past two days (Aug 20,2024) I have received NO emails and CANNOT send. I get the message, "because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com timed out." I have tried reloading Thunderbird with no results. The email zfhanna@gmail is also on my phone. My Tbird is on an IMac and Windows 10 laptop. Neither works. For Wifi I use a satellite provider.

I returned from holiday to find a new version of Thunderbird running on my PC. All the old email folders going back to 2017 and all my emails prior to 14 Aug. 2024 were gone! I don't have a back up of my hard drive. Is there any way to retrieve the folders and emails? Cheers Chris

We had 6 or 7 address books yesterday. Today we have two. We had at least 1,400 contacts. Now we have about four hundred...Business contacts, clients, HOA members. Auto fill of existing email addresses no longer happens, and especially this morning a new client's address was saved, we had been writing back and forth and all that info disappeared.

There were about 1200 emails in the main view yesterday. Today much smaller. I was told mozilla is quitting.

 Is mozilla disappearing and dead ?   We are very sad.  

We use mozilla to run this business. This hurts.

I lost my hard drive and need to load everything new. I have an older B/U copy that I would like to import all data from prior to importing my pending pop3 E-mails from Yahoo. What would be the procedure?

Thunderbird was configured to send & receive via Cox /yahoo mail. Worked until recently but can no longer send or receive.

I am using Thunderbird Beta 130.0b1 64-bit on Windows 11 Pro 10.0.22631. I have a KVM attached. My basic setup is, when the main PC (my home PC with the above specs) is connected to the KVM, I get my main monitor in the center screen with a secondary monitor on the left. When I switch the KVM, my center monitor shows the macbook on the right side (work monitor). When I switch back to the Windows 11 computer, everything goes back to the previous position except Thunderbird.

Here is something I've tried so far that seems to fix it, but it is odd that no other applications have this problem. If I make the secondary monitor on the left my primary monitor, and dock thunderbird on the left half of that monitor, when I switch the KVM to the macbook and back again, it seems to remember correctly where Thunderbird belongs (along with every other app). But if I go back to having the large center monitor the primary display, and switch the KVM away and back, everything goes back to where it was except Thunderbird for some reason.

I tried to run the system with the left monitor as the primary for a while and I use keyboard shortcuts too often which end up popping up items over on the side monitor all of the time which is more irritating. So I am wondering if there is something built into Thunderbird that specifically conflicts with remembering it's position when the KVM switches back.

It seems that the real problem is the fact that the center monitor is not only disappearing, but that the center monitor is switching between being the primary monitor and then suddenly being unavailable. Like Windows 11 is trying, only in the case of thunderbird, to remember it's last position relative to the primary monitor as opposed to its position relative to the last time the computer ran in a specific monitor configuration.

Thoughts? Should I report this to Microsoft maybe? Since this only happens with Thunderbird, is it something built into Thunderbird?

The STAT command did not succeed. Error getting message number and sizes> Mail server pop.gmail.com responded:[Auth] invalid credentials. This is the message I am receiving after removing all Thunderbird (because stopped working) and downloaded new installation. I have been trying to get Thunderbird to work for the past week and have tried everything i can think of. Thunderbird help is appallingly bad!

I have just received an email that contains the email addresses for all members of an organization I belong to in the to address. Is there an easy way to get all of these addresses copied to a mailing list in my address book?

Hey Folks. I have a couple of questions about email threading. I did try to search this before I posted

1) I have such long email chains that when threaded, the email at the bottom (new email) gets hidden behind the next column. I would like to change the order so that

• A)new emails go to the top of the inbox list (or the whole chain does)
• B) inside the thread, the new email is at the top of the list, so that the old emails are pushed under the next column instead.

I tried changing some of the "mailnews...." settings from 1 to 2 and 18 to 21, but they didnt really have the effect I thought they would.

Also, Im not sure why, but sometimes a member will reply to the thread, change the subject line, and send a new email. So the new email has remnants of the old thread, but a different subject. For some reason, these emails are placed in the original chain, however indented more to the left, instead of being placed in a a new chain. Is there a way to change this so that a new subject has its own chain?

Since the update of Thunderbird 128.1.0esr (64-bit) it freezes every couple minutes on a profile with 3 email accounts. One - no longer used - has about 2300 emails and is kept to access old emails.

The second is my primary Gmail account with 4351 emails in Inbox and 2234 in Outbox. Inbox shows 1.2 gb and Outbox 911 mb. The freezing has caused very significant challenges with reading and sending emails due to the freezing. As it is my primary email it is extremely concerning. And I am in the middle of a couple huge projects so I am getting a lot of emails.

The third is minimal with 26 emails.

I know it is not the number of accounts in the profile as I have 4 other profiles with more accounts and none of them freeze at all. (I manage/monitor other websites and keep them all separate.)

Also as others have noted the Filter function is doing weird stuff and rarely works properly anymore.

I added the repository ppa:mozillateam/ppa, but it installs the Thunderbird 115 instead of the latest 128. Is there any way to install Thunderbird 128 from a PPA? If not, will it be updated some day? Alternatively is there any deb version available of Thunderbird 128?

I recently upgraded to Thunderbird 128, and now I have very strange things happen when I filter messages. After I type one or two or sometimes three characters into the Filter field Thunderbird freezes. If I continue typing the additional characters don't appear in Filter, nothing happens in filtering, and my mouse cursor disappears when it is in the Thunderbird window (it appears normally if outside the window). After several seconds everything starts working OK, and my messages get filtered.

So, in the end I can filter messages, but this freezing is frustrating and a waste of time.

Installing Thunderbird on a new Laptop fails: The e-mail address is correct, as is the password. The following message appears : Settings were found in the Mozilla IISP database. After clicking: Done, the error message appears: Login to the server failled. The configuration, user name or password may not be correct. According to my settings, however, evrything is correct. What can I do?
