The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate has expired.

   * This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it could be
someone trying to impersonate the server.
   * If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may
be temporary, and you can try again later.

Or you can add an exception…

I have 2 machines side by side, the old works just fine , its 12 yrs old, i want to use my new one... how do I fix this ?? And yes ive tried manual settings and all that.. its the certificate in Thunderbird thats expired it says

I got a new laptop and wanted to set up Mozilla Thunderbird for an existing Gmail account. I tried several times, all failed, with a warning "unable to connect with server imap.gmail.com, may be userid and password are wrong". But I can logon to my Gmail account (with the same userid and password) on Firefox website and on my previous computer, so the id and password are correct). And I was able to set up another Gmail account on Thunderbird in this new laptop (so the version of Mozilla is not the culprit) with the same server settings (port for incoming and outgoing mails, authentication methods SL/TLS, O Auth2 etc). Will someone please help me?

I needed to change my gmail password. I went to Saved Passwords and changed the password on the account--I id'd the account by old password. However, I'm still getting the error message: The STAT command did not succeed. Error getting message number and sizes. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: [AUTH] Invalid credentials.

The account was not an oauth account which has a password I don't recognize. Also, the associate smtp record has a different password.

How do I change the password? Do I need to change the smtp password also?

thanks carol

A long time ago my Gmail account was set up to route through my Plusnet email account so that all emails arrived together on Thunderbird. I have now set up for the Gmail emails to arrive directly in Thunderbird which means that any Gmail email is received twice. How do I disconnect the Gmails being routed through the Plusmail account without stopping the Plusnet emails arriving directly from them.

I have posted up to yesterday requests for help with Thunderbird to both mail.gmail.com and to Thunderbird. Part was solved by gmail but they said that for slowness to contact Thunderbird. I got a notice things were solved and this morning both the pop.gmail.com (downloading posts with Thunderbird) and the smtp.gmail.com (sending posts with Thunderbird) were fast as usual - few seconds. I sent about 35 posts and only the first took two second. This evening the sending posts from my Thunder bird (of the desktop computers - 10 posts during an hour) take about two minutes. Sending from the smartphone take a second.

Set up your existing email address will not work. Thunderbird stopped working no outgoing no incoming. Deleted account then downloaded new Thunderbird. Entering correct name, correct email address and password (also tried with no password) finds set up on Mozilla ISP sever. Select 'Done' brings up message "Cannot log in to server.Probably wrong configuration, username or password".

This unsolvable for me now as I have tried everything I know and suggested in Help.

Thunderbird's behavior is illogical when moving a message from one Gmail account to another. It copies the message from Account 1 to Account 2, and then it archives the message in Account 1 instead of deleting it.

The correct action is delete, not archive. "Moving" means move from one place to another, not create a copy so that two versions begin to exist in two different places. If the user wanted to copy, he would choose copy instead of move.

Unsuspecting users use the move command without knowing that Thunderbird is actually archiving their old messages instead of deleting them. In other cases, people like me, who know that Thunderbird doesn't "move" correctly, sometimes can still select "move" instead of "copy" by mistake. The result is that you have to fish for those archived messages in Account 1's "All Mail" folder now, and if you've moved many emails that were buried deep inside the inbox, you are screwed!

This is a UX disaster. Why has this travesty gone on for so many years and why hasn't it been addressed after almost 2 decades?

Information on how to add the Google 'Tasks' into Thunderbird Calendar: I have a gmail imap account using OAuth2 as Authentication Method.

File > New > Calendar, select 'Google Calendar' >  click on 'Next' choose or enter: gmail email address   > click on 'Find Calendars' Select 'My Tasks' and click on 'Subscribe'

You may be asked to enter password as per Oauth2 Authentication.

See image. It shows the selection available when you follow instructions. It shows where 'My Tasks' is located in the Calendar list. I selected 'My Tasks' and then clicked on 'Task'. Create the Task and save. Task is shown in Thunderbird and on the right side you can see the Task is displayed via the webmail access using a browser.
