A week ago my whole computer went kaput. I pay for cloud back-up so everything except Thunderbird was fully restored. I know noting about computers. My friend, an IT pro who built and sold me this machine, has worked hard without success. This is my home desktop machine running Windows 10. I can access incoming mail through AT&T Yahoo Mail. And today some kind AT&T person spent two hours with me on the phone. Now I have a newly assigned security code and, to my surprise, a functioning Thunderbird. However, my hundreds of addresses have not reappeared nor have the thousands of saved emails in my various local folders. I believe what I have now is a newer version of Thunderbird. Much of it looks different. And weirdly there was a button for "old email" that I hit and started to receive things sent to me as far back as 2007. I think it stopped at some capacity limit. I am sure most of what came through I don't want but I certainly don't want to permanently delete things I may have moved to another folder. The AT&T person got me to some repair page with step-by-step instructions for hooking up with Thunderbird but he got stymied at some point. I am at a loss here and would appreciate help. Thank you for your time and attention.

I’m hoping that there is someone out there that could help me with my e-mail problems.

I have been a Thunderbird user for what seems like 30 years or more, but certainly it is a long time. For the best part of this time, so at least for over 15 years, I have been having problems that no one has been able to help me with. But, I just love how Thunderbird is laid out, and honestly, I am a creature of habit! Many friends have advised I move somewhere else, but have refrained to do so.

Where to start! My initial provider was madasafish, and later ported over to Thunderbird. After a few years, a female techie. friend set up my mails to use on PlusNet, so I could receive and send on my mobile too.

This went fairly well for a while, until PlusNet were not providing a very good service for e-mails, so now it is nearly impossible to use PlusNet, as after each action such as transferring an e-mail to a folder, it goes into refresh mode, and can sit there for minutes or hours! Is it possible to sync. my e-mails with a better provider other than PlusNet, and if so, could you please help me out with this?

However, a problem that I’ve had for some time now is not only have I lost a lot of e-mails from Thunderbird (and no one has been able to help me to recover them), but I am having difficulty sending e-mail from Thunderbird. The limitation of data now allowed on Thunderbird is very limiting, so I have had to learn from my son how to save my e-mails in a separate folder on my pc at a too regular basis.

What has motivated me to write again after so many years, is that it appears that there are changes coming about by Thunderbird that have been recently advertised, and I was rather hoping that there would be some developments that could make my life easier after such a long time.

You don’t have to be a techie. to recognise that I am not, so if anyone has the knowledge and patience to help me out, I would be very grateful.

Dear Community I have had an gmail account on thunderbird for years. In/outbox etc details were still on thunderbird but when checking account details in Thunderbird all info was there as normal.... but.. in "View password"..there was no details at all for this gmail account - but were there for other accounts.

Went to the gmail app and tried login...my email and password are correct...login was ok. I deleted the gmail account from thunderbird and tried to to do "New, Email Account." and entered my gmail account details correctly and hit Done when green gmail 'configuration" is "found".

Then I get a google window to sign into my gmail email account - it has correct email address shown.. I enter correct password and get this message.

"400 Thats an error... The server cannot process the request because its malformed. It should not be retried. Thats all we know"

Thunderbird email setup then shows a yellow box that says "wrong configuration... etc"

Checked in gmail settings and imap is ticked - pop is not. Also checked Gmail "Connections to third party apps and services" and Thunderbird was enabled in April 2021.

Does someone have a fix for this?? or... where have I gone wrong?? Cheers M.

After Thunderbird update on 8/12/24, I can no longer open PDF attachements. The attachements are there, they simply cannot be opened. I can save the same PDF files to Downloads etc, so the file is there. Also cannot open any PDF file received previous to this date, that I could open before the update.

Any help would be most appreciated. Many thanks.

When I'm composing a New Message and I press ENTER to start a new line, the text reverts to the smallest size, but the option to make the text larger is greyed out. So I'm unable to make the text larger. To resolve this I usually copy the previous line and the line that I want to add into a Notepad file, then paste it back into the new message.

I've Thunderbird 115.13.0 on Ubuntu 22.04 and I have my email which is configured properly automatically by Thunderbird for IMAP and SMTP servers from Microsoft outlook office 365.

However, now it has problem for both IMAP and SMTP (I can authenticate with OAuth2 in a login page inside Thunderbird without issue).

The issue is:

``` The mail server for account xxx@yyy responded: User is authenticated but not connected ```
My email belongs to an organisation and I don't have admin rights to change anything to authentication.
Any helps would be appreciated for that issue.
I had to reinstall Windows 11 on my computer and I had Thunderbird previously installed on a removable drive "E". So my old Thunderbird profile and mailboxes are still on that removable drive. I installed thunderbird to drive "E" but the profile was put on my C:users...... directory.
How do I tell Thunderbird to look at the profile (and all my mailboxes that were set up under that old profile) that's located on the removable E drive?
As I understand it, Thunderbird does not load many images in emails by default because the external provider of that image would receive the user's IP address.
It seems like some clients, such as outlook.com and gmail.com, just proxy the remote content so the user's IP is only exposed to the proxy provider (Microsoft and Google).
Is there a way to achieve this using Thunderbird? When I check images from my Microsoft or Google accounts, Thunderbird still seems to be retrieving them from their original remote sources. Could it instead obtain them through the email provider directly?
Alternatively, I have a VPN, though I seldom enable it for all traffic. Is it possible to bind remote content loading to a specific network interface?
I am making a feature request for official support (https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/remote-content-in-thunderbird-protected-proxy-loading/idi-p/65074).
I've been using the same web hosting and email service for over 20 years -- a long time such that I've been on their "legacy" server for a number of years now. I've hesitated to switch to a new service, because they said they are not able to transfer my old emails to the new account.
I called them a couple of days ago on a different issue, and they advised me to migrate my account to a new service, promising that they now have the means to transfer my old emails. Thankfully I asked them to hold off, because I later got an email from their "escalated support team" that apparently I would need to backup all my email content, as it will not be transferred if I migrate to a new service.
My question is: How do I backup my emails so that they are still accessible if I switch to a new email hosting service? I am not at all tech savvy so any help would be most appreciated!
How do I revert back to a prior version of Thunderbird? The latest update has a great user interface but it has wrecked a few things for me. For some reason, some of the emails I put into folder (not in the inbox) now look almost like code. Also, I was using an ActiveSync addon to get an email address to work but now that is not working.
