Why such a user-unfriendly avatar upload procedure?

On this forum, uploading an avatar is only possible if you have a Gravatar account. And to get a Gravatar account, you first have to have a WordPress account. As much as I appreciate Firefox, I find that ridiculous.

It could very well be that the SUMO people are not aware of the (added) WordPress condition. But could you then simplify the process by making direct avatar uploads possible? (What would be against that anyway?)

The two sections are separate so the this thread cannot be moved there.

edit: The Gravatar for avatars has been used since October 2013. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/709700

Though many longtime accounts still have old custom avatars in use from before then.

Missed that link, or thought it was the same link as the one that didn't bring me any further previously. But I now see that I can start a thread there (without having to create an extra account). Will do so. Thanx, Happy112.
