Is this a comparability issue with windows?

more options

Please bear with me while I get this all out.

I think I want to be in charge of the group that is responsible for overall Firefox performance, if only for one day.

Firefox can be totally unusable at times, for as long as 48 hours while it stumbles and can't make up it's mind. Oh yes, it will be up, just not running like the 3 other browsers I have for backup. It's a matter of freezing and hanging with the banner saying that Firefox is unresponsive. I can tell it's unresponsive. I want to know why. I've been trying to trouble shoot this for more time than I can remember. If Firefox is going to just sit there looking stupid while trying to annoy me, it's doing that just fine. What it won't do is allow me to shop on Amazon or eBay, read my email on gmail.com, have more than 3 or 4 tabs open, or try to watch any video, or accommodate searching without freezing. I need a font that is large enough to read, especially on the context menu. There are times I need to exit Firefox by using system explorer because Firefox won't allow me to exit when it hangs up, then I will restart it and for about 5 minutes it will actually perform.

All I have now is an attitude. What I can't get my head around is why on earth would the Firefox developers not fix this. I know, just by common sense and experience in computers for some 50 years that my experiences are not unique. I'll put good money on the developers knowing all about this issue. When Firefox made the changes to the rendering engine, and to the language used, I actually got excited. Finally, the hanging and freezing would be fixed. Sadly, this is not the case.

What can I personally do, with the exception of dumping Firefox for Chrome? Is this a comparability issue with windows 10? I have a hatred for Google. And yet, yesterday I had to open Chrome to complete a transaction on eBay. Firefox would not allow me to select a method of payment. It was a choice between PayPal or credit card and the seller would not allow anything but PayPal. It would not make the connection to PayPal, which is my normal choice. If I open Amazon, Firefox looses it's mind.

Just typing this has taken a miserable amount of time because Firefox just can't stop hanging up.

Chosen solution

Sorry if felt was to hard with my comment. it was to push the realization of the Beta and will always have problems. Some do not seem to get the idea that latest and greatest is not so. Others do not know some issues should be reported as a bug so that the Developers can fix the issue in another build. Again I apologize. Am glad the Accessibility check fixed the issue. Please keep in mind the 2nd part of lowering the number of cores if need to to find the sweet spot.

hi, thanks for reporting this. can you try if this change can workaround the performance problem?: go to the firefox menu ≡ > options > privacy & security panel and under permissions check the setting to prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser.

Thank you for your response. I did the setting. Now I have to wait for a day, hopefully no longer, before I will have a definitive answer.

You name several issues and not just for the answer above. If still have trouble : Go to the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please.

Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.

If still can not click on links or something is not working right : Move off the BETA Channel and use a Release Version : Current Release Firefox 57.0.4 Full Version Installer

Anything can happen on a Beta. So do not complain again please about issues when running a Beta. If you have a bug report it and file a bug report. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ Bug Writing Guidelines : https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/QA/Bug_writing_guidelines

Thank you for your time and response.

I've been a Firefox user since the Netscape days. At times, it was very frustrating. I've been using this version for a reason. The newest version was not released yet. I've used nightly prior to this, several times in the past. Originally, before the latest Firefox release, the older version was even more problematic. It was worse than the problems I just wrote about. I could find no way to fix any part of it, and I was all over it. Even so, it was better than using google for reasons you are probably familiar with. The details aren't important now because that is now in the past. Phillip said to try the "prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser. " That seemed to fix the entire thing. I had no idea and had not even checked that. Sorry I'm not too brite. As far as I remember, that was not in the options in the older versions of Firefox.

Your comment "Anything can happen on a Beta. So do not complain again please about issues when running a Beta." was not necessary, kind or thoughtful. If I have an issue, be it on Nightly or the new release, I'm going to let you know about it right here. It's the best for me. Sorry if you felt inconvenienced, but that's not my problem, it's yours. I will try to be relevant. The beta versions do have problems at times, and yet I sometimes like them better. So, I promise I won't be too pissed at you if you personally ignore any post I make.

Again, thank you for responding.

Even with the instability, the Nightly versions can be better. Not to be a smart ass; this ain't my first rodeo. I'm an old man and still locked into some old mindsets. I'm an old Mechanical Engineer, a one time Field Engineer on mainframes, and have some programing experience. Just not current in any of it. Today, I just do restoration of smoking pipes to stay off the streets and out of trouble. I now live in a wheel chair with the beagle for company. He's good. He keeps the neighbors away with his noise.

I copied your advice so I can mess with it if needed.

Again, thanks for your help.
