Why the near continuous updates, "fixing" problems I don't see in Firefox

more options

I get Updates weekly, I'm told they fix a problem. I see no problem. I take time to close out of everything I'm doing so when it reboots my pc I won't loose anything. I watch it install, I watch it reboot (occasionally twice), I go back to work, having lost 15 min or so in closing everything down, and making sure things are saved, running install, watching reboot (occasionally twice! Why) and then opening everything back up and getting back to work again. I am then, usually, told that the problems I never saw or experienced, have been fixed. I have used Firefox since around 2003 (I was in a school district and had a copy of (about) v. 0.8 something, liked it and have used it ever since (exclusively) I really like your product, but the nearly weekly updates are really a pain! Can't you put them together and release Monthly? Maybe more if tens of thousands of users are down because of a bug, but when I see no problem, and am told that this will fix my problem ... I begin to think of the "Emperor's New Clothes". As for the things below, there are no images nor troubleshooting info as I HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM!

Firefox does update once in a while, but not that often. Not unless there is a problem with the program. But such a correction takes some time between the problem being reported, then solved,

How were you informed that an update was needed?

. Whenever you get a message / popup that software / files need to be updated;

DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PROVIDED LINKS

While this may be a legitimate message, it could also be Malware or a Virus. Anytime you want or need to check for upgrades, go to the website of the True Owner of the program in question. For example, to check out Firefox, go to https://www.mozilla.org {web link}

You can report such a site at; Google Report Phishing Page {web link} which is the same when done while on site by going to Help > Report Web Forgery

Help us safeguard Mozilla’s trademarks by reporting misuse {web link}

For almost a year, an epidemic of Fake Update Notices have been popping up all over the place. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/forum-response-i-found-fake-firefox-update

I do use other links, and when I go to Mozilla I always get a message on the order of -thanks for using Mozilla- and then it puts up a screen with the current version info.

Firefox is scheduled for version updates every 6 weeks, Every now and then problems are reported after a new version is released, and when that happens another sub-version with a fix for the discovered faults is put together and then released as a "chem-spill" release. Feel lucky that you didn't experience the issues that brought about like one "chem-spill" version per week thru August; other users did have some pretty severe issues with 55.0, 55.0.1, & 55.0.2 - some lost data due to the faults that somehow made it thru 6 weeks of Beta testing without being discovered and reported to Mozilla.

With Firefox 55 there have been 3 "chem-spill" releases since Aug 2nd, which is the most this year. Up to 55.0.3 right now. Unfortunately "stuff happens", but when it does Mozilla gets on top of the problems fast and fixes what's wrong quickly. Better than having users wait as long as 6 weeks for those fixes.

And it's not really that hard to restart Firefox to install the updated files when you get that message, is it.

I appreciate knowing what was/is happening, thanks. I consider the problem solved for the purposes of this forum. For my problem, I'll live with it.

No, it is not hard to restart, it is just tedious closing and the reopening everything. My computer is like me, old and slow :-) It probably takes me longer than if I had the "latest and greatest" but it is paid for and works.
