Thunderbird backup and restore

I have an IMAP email account with Virgin Media. I have been backing up my Thunderbird email as follows (not sure where I found this method) WIN + R %appdata%/Thunderbird/ Ctrl A Drag all files to External Hard Drive When I open the Backup file there are two files Open 62hcjzp7.default-release (whatever that all means) there are loads of folders one being MAIL Thus contains all my folders from Local folders For every one there is a File and an MSF File How do/Can I restore these to my current version of Thunderbird? I have tried Import from another Thunderbird installation, Profile folder Open the back upp and Select Profiles Tick Mail messages. It says Compete but never copied anything It does create an empty folder under Local Folders in Thunderbird.

My question is can I restore from this backup? If not, what is the best way to backup and restore Thunderbird? Bill

I've been a Thunderbird user for years. I have no idea what they changed recently, but it's incredibly, incredibly SLOW, almost to the point of unusability. Even something as simple as deleting emails.

I usually do these in chunks -- select multiples and delete. We're not talking about hundreds of emails at at time here, just maybe 5-15. Select them all, hit delete, and it should take just a couple of seconds to delete the messages. It did, in the past. But lately, it's taking so long that I could leave and make a sandwich, and when I come back, maybe it will be done. Maybe it will still be working, though, or maybe it will have locked up because it was taking so long.

It's pretty difficult to get work done at this rate.

Hello. I am not familiar with this end to end encryption that Facebook now does for Messenger but now when I try to use Video Calling/Chat it tells me it is not supported by my browser, Firefox. I have never had any problems with it before. Is there a fix? Thanks

Hello,

Couple of days ago I could not start up Mozilla Firefox due to a corrupted file. Naturally, I was immediately worried about my bookmarks, extensions, browse history...

In the end I re-installed Mozilla Firefox -without removing my old folders on C-drive and in AppData- and was able to recover my old bookmarks and extensions just fine.

However, for my old browse history I am not so sure. I have not found a way to restore those.

Could someone help?

Hello. My Thunderbird has been slow to pen,lagging while in it,and when clicking on messages,they do not show,and have to close it by right clicking the icon several times then waiting for it to close,then when reopening it,it says it is processing,and still open,and a box appears with an option to close the program so it can open again.I have done nothing to cause this.I have many important emails etc,and i cant uninstall the program,so i installed OE Classic,and was able to import settings from Thunderbird to it,and luckily i was able to export Thunderbirds setting to a 2.1 gn file that was the file i used to import to OE Classic,but OE Classic waits,and authenticates,and then i get a big error message,and here is the screenshot. I guess i,l try outlook express if its still any good for email(have heard /read otherwise) By the way i tried right clicking on the thunderbird shortsut,and selecting run as admin,and make it run in compatibility mode for win7,and thunderbird was fast for a day or two,but now its back to quicksand. Any help is appreciated. ThankYou, Screenshot....

I have been using Firefox as my primary browser in Windows and Linux Mint for many years, and I have always found it to work when other browsers would not. Recently (last few months) functions in Ancestry.com stopped working. I thought that the problems were within the Ancestry system, and getting help within Ancestry was very difficult. I finally got a help chat session a short time ago and learned that everything in Ancestry should work using the Chrome browser. Very reluctantly, I loaded the Chrome browser on one of my Windows 11 computers, and suddenly all of the functions within Ancestry worked properly. I sincerely hope that FIrefox will soon resume being fully functional with Ancestry.com.
