Using Thunderbird 128.0.1esr (64-bit)

I have just bought a new Windows 11 laptop to replace older model. Using the old laptop, email messages are displayed in a single line format, which you click to open the message.

Using the new laptop, messages are displayed in two lines, taking up more space.

I much prefer the less cluttered format, and wondered whether anyone could advise the settings I need to alter.

Grateful for any advice.

Hello everyone, I have stored several e-mail addresses for most of my contacts (private address, business address, etc.) and now I want to create mailing lists that use different addresses of those contacts for different uses. But even if I add a specific address of a contact in a mailing list the address is altered to the address that ist marked as standard for this contact on saving the mailing list. So all mailing lists end up with the same addresses for the same contacts instead of different ones. Is that a intended behavour? Or in other words: mailing lists can solely contain addresses marked as 'standard'. It is not possible to use a 'alternative' e-mail address in a mailing list. I hope there is a way to achieve this which I haven't found so far. Kind regards, Peter

I am currently using 128.0.1esr (64-bit).

How do I set the colour scheme to be as it was before the latest update? In particular, how do I set the background colour of ALL screens to be white? In the list of emails (e.g the Inbox) the coloured tags that I use are difficult to spot against a black background.

This is the second time that an update has made significant changes to how the system looks. The last time I managed to live with it.

Fresh Install of Thunder Bird. Trying to send a new e-mail but not finding a SEND command there is only a SEND LATER button. Is there something wrong with my set-up that I need to change?

Also how can I change the font size of the tiles in my folders. I've searched the set-up over and over and not seeing an option for a font change. There is only a font change for new email.

Thanks Mike

For some while I've had a Windows 10 desktop and a Windows 10 laptop. I used to keep my mail using Thunderbird in sync on these two machines by just copying the profiles from one to the other. Just recently the laptop stopped working so I got another, which came with Windows 11. I duly installed Thunderbird on that and copied the profiles from my desktop to it, and it happily worked. However when I copied the profiles back from the laptop to the desktop Thunderbird said something like "you've started an old version of Thunderbird with new profiles - you'll have to set it all up again." Is that true? Is there a version of Thunderbird for Windows 10 which will acccept the profiles from the Windows 11 version? Is there some routine that will convert the Windows 11 format profiles etc to the format used by the Windows 10 version? When I look at Apps & features in Settings on Windows 10 it says that Thunderbird is "Mozilla Thunderbird (x86 en-GB) 115.13.0" Help About on Thunderbird on Windows 11 says it is 128.0.1csr (64-bit) Thank you Regards Alan Sandell

10 years without having to log on here for help and I finally fcked it up and can't figure out how to fix this simple problem.

I did go through all the step btw before I came here and watched several video and reinstalled TB but the problem still exists

I open TB 1. the top is all the messages in my inbox along with new one filing in

2. usually there is a split screen. 3. I can see the messages at the top and then there is a dividing line 4. below that line it would say thunderbird or some such message.

-important part-

5. when I click on the message the text of the message WOULD show in thE BOTTOM HALF OF THE split screen

but that split screen is no longer ther when I click on the message I can not read it unless I dbl click the message into a new window -

I DO NOT LIKE DOING THAT I LIKE THE MESSAGE SHOWING UP IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SPLIT SCREEN - so I can delete what I don't like quick

NOW I went to stetting/general and did the defalt thing and it does not work. it will not restore the split screen

How do I get this back before I toss the computer out of the window?

thank you

Hello. I'm in a real mess with Thunderbird which I've been using (and contributing to) for many years. My accounts (mostly Outlook/Hotmail) will not connect. Or, actually, they sometimes do, and most of the time don't. I've tried the various solutions that people kindly suggest. But, I think I've changed things so often - and also rather randomly - that everything is in a total mess. Do you think the issues with MS will be resolved? Or, if not, would you recommend the Outlook app, instead? Thanks!

Since a couple of weeks I am unable to send or reply to emails. The tab 'Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings' does not show any option to add or edit a password, which is required by my Internet provider. I have checked with them, and all the settings are OK for them, except for the missing password. NB: I did notice, when I checked this tab, it had jumped back to a previous Internet provider's server. I have deleted that. It's more than 9 years since I changed providers, but never had a need to visit this tab after that. Could it be a problem with an update? I am using version 115.5.2 (64 bit) of Thunderbird.

Thanks for your help

I'm a long time Thunderbird user and can usually find a solution to any problem. This one has got me stumped though.

After a recent upgrade my message pane lost the header with name, date, subject, attachement, etc. and now I have one that looks like the attached .

The other three machines I have Thunderbird on displays the message pane like I've always had, so don't understand how it could be different.

As with all my machines, I run Debian 12 bookworm

On this laptop there are no extensions in Thunderbird

Hi

In Thunderbird version 128, the table view displays the subject line with different font colors based on tags, as shown in the example below.

https://assets-prod.sumo.prod.webservices.mozgcp.net/media/uploads/images/2024-07-30-07-16-08-b0bfa9.png

I’ve seen at Thunderbird's release notes that Thunderbird supports displaying different font colors based on tags in the card view, as shown in the example below.

https://assets-prod.sumo.prod.webservices.mozgcp.net/media/uploads/images/2024-07-30-07-28-44-d4881a.png

However, in my card view, the subject is displayed in white font, and only the tag label is highlighted, as shown in the example below.

https://assets-prod.sumo.prod.webservices.mozgcp.net/media/uploads/images/2024-07-30-07-20-48-f841b4.png

I would like to know if the card view in 128.0.1esr (64-bit) on Windows 11 has the capability to display the subject line with different font colors based on tags. If it does, could you please advise on how to configure it?

Hi, Where are imap message filters stored under Thunderbird Nebula? On an exact transfer from Win10 Supernova to Win 11 Nebula, on separate laptops, my new imap message filter list is completely blank. Only my Local Folder filters appear - which do not work on live emails.

I can create new imap filters but I cannot find them in any msgFilterRules.dat file on the new Win11 system.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

I'm helping my 80 year old father with quite a mess with his email.

He's been using Outlook for about 40 years, and back in 2021, his email service provider, Telus here in Canada, switched their email service over to Google Gmail, and long story short, the switchover from Telus' in-house email service to a Telus-branded Google email service ended up causing a real mess with my Dad's email, due to his main laptop's Outlook desktop application getting switched from IMAP to POP, whereas his Microsoft Surface remained Outlook IMAP, for the past 3.5 years, so they got totally out of sync from each other in some very complicated ways for which there seems no simple fix.

I offer that background just to perhaps explain what I'm about to ask.

In Thunderbird, if there is:

1) a Folder named "Alpha" with a bunch of Sub-Folders

2) a Folder named "Alpha New" with a bunch of Sub-Folders, many of which have the same names of the Sub-Folders within "Alpha" but many of the Sub-Folders having totally different names

and you want to amalgamate the Sub-Folders in the Folder "Alpha" with the Sub-Folders in the Folder "Alpha New,"

and for example you have:

1) a Sub-Folder named "Beta" within the Folder "Alpha"

2) a Sub-Folder named "Beta" within the Folder "Alpha New"

so you to drag "Beta" Sub-Folder from the Folder "Alpha" to the Folder "Alpha New,"

then what will happen?

I ask because in Gmail, it will present a dialogue saying you cannot do that because there is already a Label named "Beta" nested within the Label "Alpha New."

Will Thunderbird give a similar warning, or will it ask if you want to merge the two folders or something?
