problem started after enlarging a product picture, since then I keep getting a popup every couple of minutes: you have chosen to open search which is a: application/json from google.co.uk. Saving/opening it does not stop it, scanned it with AVG and search and destroy both returned negative results. Happens in both the most recent versions of Firefox but not in Internet explorer (which I don't want to go back to) The file is 78kb The popup has subtly changed a few minutes ago and now states: Opening s you have chosen to open s, the rest has stayed the same

I have this problem too. I've WinXP SP3 and Firefox v8.0 but this started in v7.0 before updating to v8.0.

An ordinary FF download popup with "Open with"/"Save File"/etc options appears stating "You have chosen to open - search - which is a: text/javascript". Opening, saving, etc, doesn't solve the problem as it comes back from time to time, sometimes 1 popup at a time, sometimes more than 1.

Even when I'm not doing anything within the browser, or while I'm using other apps and then come back to Firefox, a lot of popus are there asking if I want to save the file.

I've traced my problem to the Trackmenot add-on - since I've disabled it the pop-us have stopped. Hope this helps.

That makes sense... Thanks!

Well, I'm using the latest developer's version 0.7.79a of TMN, will try the latest public stable release to see if this doesn't happen.

Either way, I will report this bug to the TMN development team.

It may happen that TMN find a match with a URL that is not a search URL, but the URL of a JSON file used by Google. We have to adapt the Regular Expression to make sure that this URL won't be catch anymore and therefore we need this mis-formated search URL that is used by TrackMeNot.

To retrieve it:

  • enter about:config in the URL bar of Firefox
  • in the search bar that appear type extensions.trackmenot.googleUrl
  • right click on the remaining line and click "copy value"
  • past the result and remove eventual keywords that could remain in the URL

That'd be very useful if you could send it to me.

Thanks very much.

Hi, I have this issue to but I do not have the Trackmenot addon installed. It is a real pain as the popup can appear up every few seconds offering the search (application/json) download. For me it only appears on the Google search page. Another support web page suggested that it was coming from a download add-on that was causing the issue. I did not have that particular add-on installed, but so I have disabled two other download add-ons to see if that helps. The Firefox popup blocker is set to on but it makes no difference.

From initial tests disabling the download addons may have done the trick as the pop-up appears when I type at a reasonable speed into the Google search box. I have just tried rapid keying into the search box and the pop-up did not appear. It is early days yet though so I will reserve judgement until I have tried it for a couple of days with the download add-ons disabled.

Hi,

I have attempted to fix the bug in the latest TMN update (v0.7.81). Please let me know if the problem is fixed, that would be very helpful.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

For me, it was FastestFox. The version I have is 4.7.4. Funny thing is it started out of nowhere. No recent updates of add-on or firefox itself.

I'm using latest TMN update (v0.7.81) However same problem as previous version, I think the problem affects other software as well because Google has put ssl by default on its search queries..
