Thunderbird automatically updated to v128 earlier this week after I went to Help - About Thunderbird to check that it had updated to v115.14.
Everything seemed okay immediately after the update, but when I started Thunderbird the next day it was very unresponsive. Checking the Activity Manager showed that Thunderbird was indexing messages, but that this was happening very slowly. I let Thunderbird do its thing that day in the hope that things would settle down.
The next day when I started Thunderbird things were still bad. I tried Rebuilding the Global Database but when I restarted Thunderbird it was just as bad, if not worse.
I then turned off indexing in the Thunderbird settings and Thunderbird is now responsive and back to normal.
Is anyone else seeing anything like this? Any suggestions to fix the problem?
I am a long time Thunderbird user so my profile is very large with a lot of accounts, and has been through a lot of Thunderbird versions, so it is potentially more complicated than normal.
Thunderbird version is currently 128.1.0esr (32-bit).
Thanks

Thunderbird on my system is 32-bit on 32-bit Windows and a day or two ago it updated itself to version 115.10.1. Since then it's been slow at sending emails, receiving emails, applying filters and pretty much everything else. Is this being worked on? I saw a couple of similar reports from other people here but like I said, I can't add a reply to them.
And if it's not known about or being worked on, is there some way I can roll back an update?

Two months ago I had to install Thunderbird as New and I can't access my personal Gmail account. Everytime it fails to connect to gmail servers (Error 400). Two others, also Gmail work fine and in other programs like Vivaldi Mail, Outlook, Windows Mail it works seamlessly, but for more than 20 years I was using my Favourite Thunderbird. The problem persists even after todays upgrade. I tried even with portable version and tripple-checked the password and Servers setting.
I ran out of ideas.
Can you help?

Hi, I'm installing Thunderbird on my MacBook Pro (Apple M3). I've a mail account on GMAIL with OAuth2 and I've already correctly settled the "cookies" and the Javascript issues in SETTINGS. The popup window with my correct email address opens and I can click for having the new window to open for insert my password on "imap.gmail.com", but this new window in an empty one without any field where to add the password. In my old MacBook (Intel processor) everything works fine. I've imported the whole profile from the old to the new MacBook and it also does not work (same settings, thus). The problem is in this image. The screen from Google to put the credentials does not appear. I've not found any help on line. Any suggestion? Thanks giovanni

Hello,
I don't know what happened, but I cannot access my mails anymore, instead I see a "chat" view, with no mails to be found. I don't even understand how it happened or how I should call this view, but regardless, I cannot do anything.
I am scared of deleting/reinstalling Thunderbird, because I have a lot of decently useful mails saved and I am not sure what would happen to those.
It's in German, but I'll attach a screenshot of what I am seeing. I can't press any buttons, however, or rather, as I said, nothing happens, when I click on any field/button/word/...
Best wishes and regards!

I want to restore a Local Folder to a newly installed Thunderbird. I have a complete copy of the Local Folder and want to copy it into the Mail directory (as it was previously). I then want to have it included in the programs index. Will this approach work if I re index the entire program which should pick up these messages and then display them under the categories that are spelled out for the Local Folder? Any help would be appreciated ... Robert

When I first opened Thunderbird (just a few weeks ago), I noticed that some Calendar Tasks were already set up by Thunderbird. (My standalone calendar is Efficient Reminder).
But I don't see options for REMINDERS - popups (preferably) and/or sounds. (The purpose of a calendar for me is to be reminded to do things.)
I searched for options in Thunderbird, and I looked on the information here, but can't find anything.
If I can I select a sound and/or popup to REMIND me, where can I find the option to set it?

On Outlook.com, my login ID is 'dsmasterson@gmail.com'. When I try to connect the email for this Outlook.com account to Thunderbird, Thunderbird asks for an email address and password. My problem is that Thunderbird will assume this is my GMail account and try connecting up the email from GMail.
How can I tell Thunderbird that this is my login ID and not my email address?

I have a new Windows 11 PC and have installed Thunderbird (64bit). My current email is via my ISP who have outsourced their email to Gmail - I am using IMAP. This setup is in Outlook 2007 on my old PC. I have setup Thunderbird to obtain all of my current email from the IMAP server at Gmail. This went successfully.
I now wish to move all of my off-line stored emails from this old Outlook installation and also my calendar. When I started the import process on Thunderbird and selected Outlook as a source all I really wanted to do was to find out what Thunderbird would ask for in the way of files containing my data. But, as per other postings that I have found on this site it came up with the "No profile found" .
However Outlook is NOT installed on the Windows 11 computer and nor have I created any pst files or any other files and moved them to the Windows 11 PC. So the 32bit vs 64bit answer does not yet apply to my situation.
So what process should I follow to move my data from the old Outlook 32bit installation on my old Windows 10 PC to the new Thunderbird 64bit setup?
Thanks for any advice

I suppose the best place to start is when/where I think this problem started. Approx three to four weeks ago my thunderbird program stopped downloading emails from my server (Spectrum/RR). I say Approx because the problem sort of sneaked up on me without me realizing it was there.
I was using W7 and my hard drive was pretty much full and I was constantly getting messages that my email could not be downloaded due to lack of space. I started deleting stored emails and emptying the trash, which sort of kept me up and running for the past couple weeks. All this time my Gmail account continued to work as it should, downloading every email that was sent to me, but the Spectrum/RR account was spotty at best.
So today I fired up a new W11 computer for the first time. One of the first programs I installed was Thunderbird. When I attempted to set up an account using Spectrum/RR the process failed. I typed in all of the correct information, Name, Email, and Password but the account will not finalize. Instead, I continue to get the same message that the Configuration, Username or Password is incorrect.
I have since successfully logged into my Spectrum/RR web mail, so I know the username and password I am using is correct. I have also talked with Spectrum Technical support, and they have verified that what I am using to log in is correct.
I hope I didn't ramble on to much and someone can help me !

Hello! I recently got the update to Thunderbird 128 on my PopOS laptop via sudo apt update/upgrade. I don't know what the previous version was. Since the update, Thunderbird will spike my CPU to 120 - 140% (per command-line "top") if I have an interaction with it (e.g. reading and then deleting an email that was received) after the program has been sitting idle for several minutes. After a few minutes of loud fans, things calm down again so I presume Thunderbird is doing some sort of maintenance routine that completes successfully.
I do not have the global search index thing turned on. I did not change the default mailbox db idle time. I do have rather large mailboxes that are synced via SMTP, from three different providers. There are dozens of folders (not hundreds) containing thousands if messages (but not tens of thousands). Hopefully that gives an idea of scale .. I don't have a massive overload of untended email history but I do have a quantity of historical emails that the system has to deal with.
I followed the excellent directions online to obtain a profile during one of these high-cpu sessions. It is available at https://share.firefox.dev/4dAmyAz
Please let me know if there is anything further I can do to help diagnose this issue, such as generating more specific profiles. The high-cpu state is a pretty common occurrance now.
