In the course of my work I was scrolling back and forth through the emails in my inbox when I suddenly could not scroll any later than 12 days before the present date. I can scroll through emails previous to that normally. I then sent a test email to this account from a different account and it was received and displayed correct. So I am unable to access any emails between 12 days ago and now, like something took a bite out of my emails.

I have used Thunderbird for quite a while so finally sent a donation. Withing a few months, my emails won't send. Sometimes they won't receive either. I went to Comcast and asked for help and they gave me a new password for one email address and it worked for a few days now NOTHING. I'm so frustrated! I don't believe it has anything to do with Thunderbird but since Comcast is no help, I'm desperate. I have 4 email addresses and each is important to have access to. Please help me. For the past few months, Thunderbird often shows a blue line at the bottom right of the screen and this gradually increases in length during 1 or 2 minutes. Whilst thiis is happening there sounds like a lot of disk activity aand it is difficult to get a response from the PC. Is Mozilla or Thinderbord running a backup and how do I change the frequency?

When I send an email message from my gmail account using TB, a copy of the sent message then appears in my inbox. How do I turn that off? I have 11 email accounts on TB and this is the only one this is happening in. Also, on this same account there are 2 "sent" folders. All of my other accounts only have one. How do I make sure that all of my sent mail goes into just one of these folders? Related to this, in settings, under copies, then "when sending", do I click "send folder on......" or "other"? If "other" then which folder? Thank you for any help.

For the last month or so I have not been able to log in to my Thunderbird email with my Hotmail account. When I start the program a box pops up telling me the login failed and I need to enter the password manually. I enter the password several times, but each time it says it failed. I can log in with other applications, but not with Thunderbird.

 I got an email recently telling me that Microsoft has changed its authentication process for logging in. Has Thunderbird been able to take this into account? If I can't get at my mail I will have to start using Outlook instead.

Hi all,

Im looking to only use thunderbird to open emails without access to any other parts of the application. Literally double click an .eml file within windows and get it to open the email and block all access to everything else, including (sorry!) the donation page which causes a browser window to open and we cannot have that (am happy to donate some money if I can block this) as well as the account start up.

So according to the documentation, I just need a policies.json file in a distribution folder, in the program files, thunderbird folder which I have done.

A very shortened JSON copy of this file is as follows: (includes one option that DOES work and one that does not) {

 "policies": {
   "BlockAboutAccounts": true,

"BlockAboutConfig": true, "Preferences": {

     "app.use_without_mail_account": {
       "Value": true,
       "Status": "user"
     }

} } }

So that works on blocking the about config, but still allows Thunderbird to keep asking for a user account, unless specifying that you do not want to. This happens every time, unless set not to manually.

When setting the change, the prefs.js file within the profile that it creates has the value key name, and the value is the default of "false" unless the config is manually edited and switched off, then it changes to true.

There are no group policies set against Thunderbird so I have no idea why my policies.json "appears" to be getting ignored, though the BlockAboutConfig does work. Perhaps it is not Preferences that it goes against but something else ? (something I was not able to find out in the documentation, but I could not see it).

Any help would be most appreciated but ideally we need: No main app window to appear (so just the email itself would appear) No account request No donation page to appear.

Am happy to contribute some money towards the project if this can be locked down.

Thanks !

Carl

I wish to transfer my Thunderbird accounts (i.e. I have two different email addresses in one Thunderbird installation) from my 'old' PC to my 'new' laptop.

Historically I have backed up my emails by copying the Thunderbird folder from <user>/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird and pasting it to my backup disk. This has worked well for more than 6 years. In that time, I've had to recover a couple of times by simply re-installing Thunderbird, establishing it with my main email account (ian_and_maureen@yahoo.co.uk), then replacing the newly established .../Roaming/Thunderbird folder with the archived one, thus recovering all my subfolder data in the Inbox of ian_and_maureen... plus a second email address.

I've tried to do this with the laptop, but I don't fully recover the historical data, all I get is the current Inboxes for the two accounts with no historical data. Can you advise me what I'm doing wrong? If this is the wrong way, what is the correct way? It seems essentially the same action as is described by the guide found at Moving Thunderbird Data to a New Computer | Thunderbird Help (mozilla.org)

My PC is running Windows 10 Version 22H2 (OS Build 19045.4717) with Thunderbird Version 115.13.0 (32-bit). The Laptop is Windows 11 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3958 with Thunderbird Version 115.13.0 (64-bit)

I've set up two Thunderbird Profiles. One for all my work emails and one for all my personal ones. I've got two shortcuts on the Desktop setup with the following entries in the target

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -no-remote -P default-release "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -no-remote -P PersonalAccounts

They both work well but I'm struggling to work out how to pin the shortcuts to my taskbar so I can just click on either when the need arises.

I did try just setting it up to give me the profile manager "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" -no-remote -ProfileManager but I'd rather save a click or two if it's possible.

Any ideas on how to do this? It's not letting me pin two Thunderbird shortcuts.

I did try following the Firefox method https://gist.github.com/jooize/5636b9eb975bde30c38b753e9f301de4 but got stuck at the line where it says "select the location field (Ctrl-L).", "Replace text with: about:config" lines.

Since we upgraded to 115, most of our PC cannot forward email larger than 5MB to team members. One or two PC can sometimes send without problem but not always.

We can press "forward" and the compose new email window comes up as it has always been. But when we press "send", it will stall for a while then responded "Cannot send email". Press "OK" and sometimes it will then respond "Creating email" or something like that. The sequence could be reversed (create first then cannot send). Cannot even save as Draft into the Draft folder on our own manged MDaemon mail server on our local LAN.

Thinking it is all due to the forwarded email being too big, tried many many times over weeks checking MD setting, LAN and individual local PC setting but still cannot resolve.

Today I tried something completely different. Instead of "forwarding one large email", I tried to attach large attachments like .jpg etc and found that it is the "attachment process" that is causing the problem. If I attach a larger file, say 10MB, it is problem. If I attach several small files, it sometimes go through even the total file size exceed 10MB. The I tried attaching just a few attachments, save to draft folder, close the compose window, re-select the draft email and then add more file. Repeating this several times I managed to be able to save to draft folder on the server and then send out an email of 49.9MB. I keep on playing with it for hours but I could repeat and can only managed to do something like 10MB/11MB.

This is still much better than trying to "forward an email" (as attachment or in-line) which we can only do up to about 5MB max.

Please help to resole this problem.

I changed my server today and now I cannot access IMAP SSL. Everytime I try thunderbird sends me this error.

The certificate for {$hostname} is not valid for that server. Someone could be trying to impersonate the server and you should not continue.

I have no options to accept the new certificate.

I am running Kubuntu 24.04 with a snap package for thunderbird. I removed from .ssh/known_hosts all signatures that where problematic when sshing the server. Don't know how to delete the signature in thunderbird. Have not found anything relating to this message in Google.

Any clue?

I just updated to the latest version of Thunderbird (128.0). My layout is set to vertical view. The layout on the list of messages (the middle section in between the list of folders and the message preview pane) looks very different from the previous version. The font is smaller and each message pane seems to take up more space (less dense). I wish I could describe the problem better by sending a screenshot, but I only know to do that in Firefox, not Thunderbird. I've tried to adjust the settings (either adjusting the density or zoom) but I can't get it to look the same as before. Adjusting the font size bigger makes each message take up more space so fewer messages fit in the message list. Can someone help?
