Hello,

Earlier today, Hulu was working, but when I try to play videos tonight it just freezes on a black screen with no audio. I sometimes get the message "Firefox is installing components needed to play the audio or video on this page. Please try again later." I thought this was an issue with my DRM, but Netflix, Spotify, and Disney+ content all play like normal.

Widevine says that it was updated today, and when I try to install a different version it says the file is corrupt.

My hosts file has not been changed from the default settings.

I also can't access gvt1.com; it says that the server was not found.

I've tried reinstalling Firefox multiple times to no avail.

Are there any other possible solutions to this problem?

This is a problem I used to experience a while ago, and then I wasn't experiencing it at all for a long time; however, it's just cropped up again.

I'll be browsing like usual, then I click a link, and that page won't load, just endlessly "waiting". Then I open some new tabs and try visiting other websites, but they also get stuck in the "forever loading" state.

It's not an internet problem because other programs on my computer are still connecting just fine, including to the same sites I'm trying to visit on Firefox.

An interesting wrinkle: other sites that I already had open tabs in when the problem starts will continue to be able to connect to other pages in that site and otherwise receive new data from that site, whether in the same tab or in a new tab. Specifically YouTube and Discord. I can continue receiving new Discord messages and watching new YouTube videos, while other sites fail to load. That is, unless I close all open tabs of those sites and then try to visit them; then they also stop working like everything else.

I'm not sure what the cause could be. In the instance that happened today, the link that initiated it was literally to the homepage of the same site I was already on. And nothing seems to resolve the problem except for exiting Firefox entirely and relaunching it.

Suddenly, two of my email accounts are showing blank messages on Firefox, but are fine on other browsers. I'm using Firefox 128.1 ESR. I recently updated Firefox from 128 ESR to 128.1 ESR.

On one of them Ctrl-A highlights the main body of the email (GMX Mail) and then reloads itself and shows okay, but I'm not going to continue to use it like that.

The other one, I can manually highlight the otherwise invisible text, but then it just goes away again, and this is my main email (Proton Mail), so it is unusable in Firefox.

How do I remove the last ESR update? Do I have to switch browsers permanently or is this fixable?

Thanks, AnneF

Every so often the firefox icon pinned to the taskbar becomes blank. Selecting the icon results in file not found message and asks if I want to delete.

There's a lot of articles on internet about this problem. The fix always seems to be "just re-pin to taskbar"

I can re-pin Firefox to the taskbar but should not have to.

Long time Firefox user using Windows10 latest updates. Please advise a permanent fix.

I’ll start off by stating that I haven’t used Firefox in few months. However today I tried using Firefox again. However I was signed out of my account. I forgot my password and made a new one. For some reason it made a new account with my original and all data, history, and passwords are gone. And there important information is some data on that really need from my other or older account that I need. And I don’t know what kind of issue this is or how to fix. Is there a way I can fix this or is it too late?

I have been running firefox as my default browser for years. However, it has recently become difficult to get it to open (had to press the start tab several times), and now won't open at all. when I clicked on the app tab, the little icon begins to spin then stops. I have restarted my computer and just now uninstalled and reinstalled the program. No change. I have tried the tab on my desktop, and from the app page but it just won't kick in. I am at a total loss. I have a VPN, but turning it on or off makes no difference. what is wrong?

I play the game at https://word-salad.archive.org/, but most of the time it's considered insecure. This is the error I get: Error code: SSL_ERROR_INTERNAL_ERROR_ALERT. Yet, it will come on if I enter the url later in the day. Do you know why it's a hit and miss url? I would think that if they fixed it once, it would be okay.
