[In KB] Use Gestures in Firefox for Android (was: How do I use Firefox gestures on my mobile device?) (was: Touch-screen Gestures)

  1. Touch-screen gestures have been introduced as part of the Fennec implementation on Android, however none of these are documented.

    The proposal is here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Fennec/Features/Gestures

I was directed here from: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=663683

  2. Hi sabretoothe, thanks for the heads up. This feature is just a concept at the moment and is a P2 on the mobile feature list. We're tracking upcoming features and when this shows up in Aurora we'll start working on documenting it.

  3. Hi Verdi, some of the gestures on the page are simply proposed, however some gestures have shipped with Firefox 4 for Mobile and aren't even upon the proposed list. i.e. Jump to top/bottom.

  4. Hi sabret00the, what are the gestures that are already in Firefox 5? Maybe we just need to add them to the existing Zoom in and out of websites on Firefox for Android article after it has been renamed to something like "What are the touch screen gestures on mobile?".

  5. Currently we have zoom in/out, back/forward and pan (scroll) to top/bottom of page.

  6. There's now a first draft of Use gestures in Firefox for Android.

There's now a first draft of [[How do I use Firefox gestures on my mobile device?]].
  7. Can we get that approved? We're now on version 7, so I think that should be out there.

I don't want to approve this revision.

  9. Is there something we can do to bring it up to a level whereby it can be approved?

  11. I am not even a firefox mobile user.

Are some of these features now in use ?
If so presumably you could follow scoobi's suggestion and edit the article.

It does seem rather a pity IF features have been introduced and not documented, especially as an article was drafted by Michelle, who was instrumental in introducing changes Simplifying KB article processes to how the KB system is to work.

Another case where maybe putting work in progress out publicly may help, rather than waiting for a finished article.

At least an article started by staff is going to eventually surface. The new simplified procedures for a community driven KB suggest anyone could start an article, and that may be true, but many articles may never see the light of day in practice, approval is not only a bottleneck, it may never be given.

  12. I'm happy to edit it, I need to know what is expected of the edit though.

  13. The current guidelines suggest you can do what you like, it is after all supposed to be community driven. Presumably it is allowable to use images from https://wiki.mozilla.org/Fennec/Features/Gestures

Next shout that you want the article approved and out where it is seen, you may find you have the first community driven edit ever approved !

  14. As said in this post, it'd be fine to include the content of the article about Zoom (that will be redirected) in this new article.

  15. Hi,

Thanks for taking an interest in getting this article ready for approval, apologies for being so slow about it. I'd appreciate help to get some figures added, and I like John99's idea about using a couple of images from the http://wiki.mozilla.org/Fennec/Features/Gestures page.

I notice that forward and back are the opposite of what is described on the above page (two-finger swipe right goes back), so let me know if you find the same to be true.

I think it would also be great to add sections for the panning gestures and context menu, but I don't think the rest of the gestures have been implemented (those for tabs, bookmarks, and full screen).

    Regards, Michelle

  16. Hello, about this statement:

For Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and up: You can also swipe left and right on the Awesome Screen to flip through the three tabs.

I've just tried and it doesn't seem to be like this. Maybe I did not undestand this passage, but can you check it with different devices? I'm using a Samsung I9100 Galaxy II with Jelly Bean.
