The message in image pops up, TB saves file as BAK, creates new empty .dat

As I did a while back, I am creating a "MASTER FILTER" file for use by ALL of my many email accounts. Assembled them into one .txt file in MSWord, then save, renamed as .dat and copie into profile in place of the existing. Closed TB before pasting, then re-opened and got the error.

I suspect there is some type of error or corruption in my custom file, but have no way to test it or otherwise find out.

Will gladly email my file to anyone that thinks they can check it.

I have numerous mailing lists in my address book. Every time I move an email address from "All Address Books' to a mailing list, it disappears from the mailing list it is in.

For example: 2 Mailing List: Monday Group & Tuesday Group. I want Johndoe@abc.com in both lists. I 'drag & drop' the Johndoe@abc.com to the Monday Group. When I 'drag & drop' it to the Tuesday Group, it disappears from the Monday Group. How I add the an email address to both the Monday Group & the Tuesday Group?

Thanks.

Used Thunderbird happily for many years to read my Gmail account but a couple of years ago I had to replace my laptop. Thunderbird stopped working, returning the profile missing or inaccessible error. I have used Web-based Gmail since, but I miss Thunderbird, which I still support! Just downloaded the latest version but it makes no difference. Is there a solution? I'm no whizz, but my husband could help, if instructions require more expertise than I have. Thanks!

I just installed updated to 115.14.0 for my OS 10.13.6. I had a very old version of Thunderbird 45... I went through the gmail sign on procedure and it looked like it was successful but I can't download or send any messages. I have verified incoming and outgoing server settings on Gmail. Any insight would be great!

When I try to download messages I get a message that it can't connect or that it times out. When I send messages: Sending of the message failed. "The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com timed out. Try again."

incoming server settings: imap.gmail.com and I have tried pop.gmail.com (Profile currently shows Pop mail server but I have it set to imap.) SSL/TLS I have tried ports 993 and 995 Auth: OAuth2

Outgoing server settings: Smtp.gmail.com Port: 465 Auth: OAuth2

I have a mailing list on Thunderbird for both my local community service club and one for family news. I have used these lists for years and years. However, last night when I tried to send out an email to the community service group it wouldn't send. Upon further investigation, I found that the list was now empty - no emails were in the list! When I tried to add them back in and hit "ok" they did not stay on the list - just disappeared!

The same thing happened to my Family List, but not to our Beekeepers list. It seems they would all be gone, but some are gone and some are not!

Is there any way to get this to work again? I set up another list for the Community Service group with a slightly different Title, but that wouldn't work either.

Thanks! David & Renee

I am currently on Ver 115.12.2 (32-bit), but I've had this problem over several versions. I recently downgraded from the 64bit version (for a different reason), it had the same issue.

Old messages in the Inbox are listed twice, including those that have been read. New incoming messages are not duplicated, messages where I've deleted the duplicates are not again duped. Messages that get filtered to or moved to folders are not duped. Old messages that are in folders are not duped.

I have several email accounts in TB, and I only see this on my most active- of course! I have compacted all folders many times and rebuilt the Global Database with no effect. I tried opening in Troubleshooting mode and they are still duplicated. It is a POP account.

POP3 mailbox, Thunderbird 115.13.0 on Linux Mint. I have TB set to automatically download headers only for new messages. When I select a message and click the "Download the rest of the message" button for that message TB downloads the message as expected but immediately jumps to the next message. This is new behavior in the last few days. Can't remember when it updated last. It has always worked as expected in the past - i.e. download and display the message. Suggestions?

Using 115.10.1 (32-bit), Windows 11.

I get a lot of SPAM. Much is filtered out upstream (via a Barracuda system supplied by my ISP) More (but less effectively) by Thunderbird. But some (too much) still gets through.

My question - most of the time I can recognize it's SPAM by only looking at headers - subject, and correspondent (sender). I have no need to check the email content.

But to junk the email I need to select it, which causes the email content to appear by the built in browser in TB.

Not an expert, but this seems like an unnecessary security risk, that gives the email content (and any included code) time to do something. Am I overthinking this? Is there a way to mark an email junk without selecting it?

thx,

Thunderbird automatically updated to v128 earlier this week after I went to Help - About Thunderbird to check that it had updated to v115.14.

Everything seemed okay immediately after the update, but when I started Thunderbird the next day it was very unresponsive. Checking the Activity Manager showed that Thunderbird was indexing messages, but that this was happening very slowly. I let Thunderbird do its thing that day in the hope that things would settle down.

The next day when I started Thunderbird things were still bad. I tried Rebuilding the Global Database but when I restarted Thunderbird it was just as bad, if not worse.

I then turned off indexing in the Thunderbird settings and Thunderbird is now responsive and back to normal.

Is anyone else seeing anything like this? Any suggestions to fix the problem?

I am a long time Thunderbird user so my profile is very large with a lot of accounts, and has been through a lot of Thunderbird versions, so it is potentially more complicated than normal.

Thunderbird version is currently 128.1.0esr (32-bit).

Thanks
