I updated to Firefox 8.0. I checked the option to import bookmarks from Safari and I assumed old Firefox bookmarks would be retained. I have no bookmarks. The import bookmarks function has been removed from the file menu and I can also not find it under the Library menu in the Bookmarks pull down. I'd like to know how to import bookmarks from Safari. I don't know what the programming philosophy is behind changing the location of important features and removing them in favor of automation that doesn't work but from this user's point of view it makes Firefox no longer a viable alternative browser for me. The learning curve and loss of functions with every new version is too steep. User's are looking for stability, not change for it's own sake.

You can find the Import menu entry in the Bookmarks Manager (Library)

  • Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Data from Another Browser

First export bookmarks from safari to html file and second import that file to firefox:

Exporting bookmarks from Safari

Launch Safari then from the File menu select Export Bookmarks then safe the file to your computer. By default, Safari calls the file Safari Bookmarks.html(though the .html extension will probably be hidden).

Importing bookmarks from Safari to Firefox follow the instruction here:

The big problem for me is that when the Import command was migrated to the bookmarks library it was hidden under the star symbol. I found instructions on how to import but they did not explicitly say that's where the command had been hidden. I hope this thread makes clear that in the library window there are 4 buttons at the top (e.g. left right arrows, a gear wheel with a pull down menu, a text symbol with a pull down menu, and the star symbol with a pull down). The import command is under the star symbol. Call me dumb but after you figure that out, the instructions make sense....duh.
