Adobe Flash plugin keeps crashing?

more options

The Adobe Flash plugin crashed again about half an hour ago. It crashed on me 4 times from the weekend to tonight, so after checking it was OK on my plugins page, I uninstalled it and Firefox 7 then reinstalled both via Explorer. I also tried (on Explorer) a couple of sites that use Flash Player and had no issues, though I might just have been lucky. Since reinstalling tonight it has crashed again.

I'd much rather use open-source Firefox than either of its corporate rivals (Explorer and Chrome) but as 80% of what I do on the web involves Flash, I'm getting a bit frustrated.

It's just crashed again - surely someone else has this problem? Think I'll go back to Explorer.

Hi adeh99,
thanks for starting a new thread, it may in fact transpire it is closely related to the problem in the other thread /questions/888865 or it may be something entirely different.

Please

  1. have a look at plugin crash reports
  2. when you get a crash use the submit report option
  3. after submitting some crash reports go to about:crashes in the location bar
  4. post a few of the most recent crash IDs that you see
    • see firefox crashes, the plugin crashes are submitted by a similar system, but are not submitted unless you manually submit them, either by clicking on them, or by using the interface mentioned in the first link above

There are two things you could try to see if it stops the crashes

  1. try Firefox's Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode
    1. do not make changes in the first window, just click on continue
    2. use only the default themes
    3. if things do not improve; then whilst still in safe mode: disable all plugins (other than of course Flash Player)
  • 2. try version 3.6 of Firefox

Your not the only one having Adobe Plugin Issues. It is evidently a major problem, because thousands of other people are experiencing the same problems. It happens in any browser. Adobe has tried to push it off as Piss poor Graphics cards or something else and not stating that the problem could be with their software. When Adobe Flash Plugin starts acting up in Firefox, It causes the plugin container to work overtime and drive up the CPU usage and eventually Adobe crashes. I have a temporary fix that might help the Plugin run a bit better and it will take it longer to crash for Firefox users, but it is not a permanent fix. Just go to your windows Task Manager and look for Plugin container.exe and right click it. You should see the word priority on the pop up box. Change the priority of the plugin container to low. I've done it and so far I have been able to play flash games more often. The Flash Plugin will still crash, but it will run a longer before it crashes. Chris Campbell over at Adobe has been gathering reports from people who are experiencing the same problems and forwarding them to the tech department and I am assuming they are working on trying to find a fix.
