Cannot use facebook with FF. Uninstalled FF and installed it again. It just only hangs whenever I am loggin in to facebook. Is it not possible to use FF in sites requiruing loging in ?? Tried Chrome without any problem just to check the network etc Is the FF era now gone? Does one have to use Chrome if you wanna be a part of the net?

It started with FF3.6. I updated to 6.0.2. Same thing cannot login to any site using FF. Tried also in Safe-Mode with same result: Cannot use FF when logging in to any site.

I guess I have to abandon FF, I am disappointed; it is nice if it only been useful ...

Your Malware undetectable by most anti-malware programs (maybe because randomly named) is still present and has other hidden symptoms.

If this Malware is a Rookit, try this free Kapersky's tool.

Check and tell if its working.

Does that happen in safe mode? If not, it could be that an extension is causing problems.

Happens also in Safe_Mode. Cleared everything and reinstalled FF. It still hangs every time I use it to log in to any site. "ordinary" pages work well, no hanging only when I have given username and password and click 2Login" button. A couple of seconds and when I try clickin FF the "Not responding" comes. Hve to kill it by Task Manager. /r

There is no problem starting FF and there is only one process in Task manager list firefox.exe And it hangs about 2 seconds after clicking Login-button on every site I use to visit with a Login, User, Passwd fields ... However I am slowly getting used to Chrome and right now there is no FF at all in the system. It is rather useless when hanging on every login-site. But I did like until it stopped working. /r

Check that your Security softwares are not interfering with Firefox.

-> Configuring Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet

Check and tell if its working.

I tried: first configuring the Firewall (Windows), removing Firefox and installing FF again and therafter adding Mozilla Firefox in Firewall exceptions. Then I tried to login to Facebook... FF hangs Not Responding in Task Manager No CPU almost: taskmgt and rundll32 1% each FF still not working. /r

Create a New Profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

-> Basic Troubleshooting: Make a New Profile

IF that New Profile works then you can recover your Bookmarks and Passwords from the Old Profile.

-> Recovering important data from an old profile

Check and tell if its working.

Thank you for feeding me hints. Did implicitly recreated profile when removing FF and reinstallling it, I presume. But again I used a new profile created from scratch in ProfileManager and started FF using it. FF hangs when I try to login to facebook. To assure working net I did it with Chrome without problem and also did log out not to have confused FB. Still no FB with FF. Something is really not functioning in my PC (XP). /r

-> Is my Firefox problem a result of MALWARE ??

-> Do a MALWARE check with these Malware Scanning programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you UPDATE each program to get the latest version of their Databases before doing a Scan. Also, Close All other Applications (softwares) before Starting to Run Scans.

Check and tell if its working.

Try changing this setting in about:config.

network.http.max-connections - try 48

The new default for that is 256, and it might be too much.

Changing the setting network.http.max-connections to 48 did not solve the problem. Firefox freezes directly after click on Login button, as usual nowadays. I am trying to get a Anti Virus scan to work properly as proposed by mha007. Gonna reboot again, hopefully it is installed soon! /r

A total scan by AntiVirus program Norman Security Suite took about 21 hours Found a couple of suspicious things and repaired (deleted) but in some old things that I beleive never have been run on the computer. Tried Firefox to login to facebook: IT HANGS ! as usual. Clearly I cannot use Firefox anymore on my computer. Out of ideas. Gonna learn to use Chrome ... /r

Success. I did download the Kaspersky's free tool after checking it up. Ran it twice to get rid of a trojan: "backdoor.win32.sinowal.knf". Rebooted and now FireFox is working, ie does not hang on logging in to FB. Thank you very much "mha007" ! Where does this trojan come from? And why did not Sophos nor Norman AntiVirus find this bastard? I will confront Norman, my current AVS, with a question about it. Maybe I come back with an explanation of how this can be undetected. Happy ending to night! /r
