The security certificate for a tool bar I have installed in Firefox has expired. The error code in the pop up is "sec_error_expired_certificate".

When the pop up appears you have two choices: "View Certificate" and "Cancel". "View" lets you see the expired certificate (not of much use). "Cancel" makes the pop up go away and then immediately reappear. It is not possible to try to go into the settings. Essentially, this has rendered FireFox useless. The only way to close the program is via the task manager

I cannot tell what version of FireFox I am using, but an update was recently installed. The pop up error window is titled "Secure Connection Failed".

You can try starting Firefox in Safe Mode. Here is a description: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode

Sounds like you won't be able to use the menu shortcut, but you should be able to use the command-line option to start in safe mode ("firefox -safe-mode" at a command prompt).
