restore previous session is not available

I am not sure what happened but there were some updates to Firefox 5. When I tried to open it, the window was just a narrow line which I had to expand by dragging the top of the window up. Also, the task bar shows two open firefox windows appear to be the same. If I close one it seems to screw up the other. Also, when I opened Firefox, it did not offer me the restore session option. It is grayed out.

I am not sure what is happening with it. I am on Win 7 home premium and Firefox 5

Chosen solution

For what it's worth, I had this problem, too.

Here's the solution I used: kill Firefox 8 (from ubuntu terminal "killall firefox" or right-click the window title bar and kill/force-quit)

After restarting firefox again, the restore option appeared in all its glory.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

Not sure yet if this helped. When I deleted the files as mentioned, the AppTabs and Tab Groups did not open and close unless it happened very fast. I guess I will wait and see if Firefox gets closed again unexpectedly, if the restore session is available at that time.

Thanks

You can force a session restore by typing about:sessionrestore in the location bar where you normally type in a web address, and then hit Enter.
