Sync not working after updating to Firefox 5.0

I have an iMac running OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) & Asus Laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate. I was running Firefox 4 and sync worked great.

A week ago, I upgraded to firefox 5.0 on both computers. Then Asus notebook crashed (bad ram chip; needed to be serviced). So I resurrected an old Toshiba notebook (Windows 7, 32 bit) and also upgraded to Firefox 5.0.

When I installed Firefox 5.0 and enabled sync, the program asked me to enter some codes, I did. Ever since then, sync has not been working. I keep getting an error message saying sync is not working due to an unknown error.

I have to say that's the least helpful error message I ever saw. I don't even know how to go about getting sync to work.

any suggestion is appreciated.

No, I am not interested in deleting my key and starting over. so forget about that suggestion.

I am running Windows XP pro and Windows 7, and use a Motorola Droid 2 Global. Before updating to Firefox 5 on both machines, the sync feature worked fine. After updating to Firefox 5, however, I get an unknown error when trying to sync. In fact, when I open Firefox mobile on my smartphone, half of my bookmarks have been actually deleted!!!!

By the way, did you upgraded from Firefox 4 or from Firefox 3.6?
