Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

I'm sorry, but that has no effect

If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a high value can cause issues like you described.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

I did not increase the font size. That is the problem. FF5 is increasing it randomly here and there.

I'm quite computer literate, I know what I'm doing.

There is clearly a problem with FF5 and fonts. Going through this forum there is a lot of anecdotal evidence for that.

The issue with the fonts being all in bold.

Pages randomly displayed without styles applied.

I've run into all these too apparently randomly. Might be there is a pattern but I did not notice.

I'm attaching image which shows a page displayed once correctly and once with the wrong font. First it displayed incorrectly, then I restarted Firefox and it suddenly displayed correctly.

Try to toggle some Boolean gfx.font_rendering prefs on the about:config page to disable some features and maybe set gfx.direct2d.disabled -> true to disable Direct2D.
Filter: gfx

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
  • Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
  • Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

Try to disable hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

This problem went away for me when I recreated my Firefox profile.

But this is a step normal user should not need to go through
