When typing in a text field on a website, why does the cursor jump behind the already typed text?

This issue only happens when inputting text in a form on website (not in the address bar). The cursor randomly jumps a letter to the left, thus making input rather impossible.

Device: HTC Vision (= HTC Desire Z in North America) running Android 2.2

Chosen solution

It is a bug that will be fixed in the RC release. If you are OK with turning on installing from 'unknown sources' in the applications settings. The nightly build will have this working http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/nightly/latest-mozilla-central-android-r7/fennec-4.0b6pre.multi.eabi-arm.apk else use the software keyboard till that release.

I think the issue was solved in the previous beta build, but now it has resurfaced. Regardless - brilliant, thank you.

kbrosnan, seeing as how the apk you're referring to is beta 6 I'm guessing the issue resurfaced indeed. Notice how both of us have a Desire Z (mine a European GSM phone of course, running the atest FFMobile update on Android 2.2.1), most likely that's no coincidence.

So we both have the issue with latest release, and I'm gonna go ahead and assume Sorin has the issue with the hardwarekeyboard only as well? Coz I just tried using the on-screen 'board, and it works like a charm. Must be something to do with the way the input is generated from the hardware keyboard. If anyone with another type of hardware-keyboard equipped phone has the same issue, please let it be known :-)

Apart from that: awesome browser, people! Waiting for that keyboard fix so I can chuck away all others (currently running 4-5 browsers apart from the stock Android, FF Mobile seems to be the one that'll unite all their various advantages, allowing me to go for the big 3 only: FF Mobile, Opera & stock Android)

Some additional fixes for this bug were checked in about 4 days ago, and are included in the latest nightly builds: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=634555

Hey mbrubeck, that's great man. Just one thing: I am by no means savvy on this, so on the 634555 tracker page I can't really see where to go or what to do to settle this. PEBKAC problem of course, but any advice would be appreciated.

Is there an update on this bug because as of Apr 2012 I still have this issue on mytouch HTC - (most recent versions of all software)? I cannot populate any field boxes in the browser without random spaces populating them. Usually the first two characters will type together but the others end up just spaced out. Please help. I love FF - who doesn't - but this does make typing anything legible on FF impossible.
