I can not update Firefox 4 Beta 7 to Firefox 4 Beta 8, every time I try to update, I get a message telling me to make sure that I do not have any other firefox programs running after the suposed update installed. I have tried numerous times, made sure in my task manager that nothing else was running that would interfere, and still the problem continues. I also had this same problem in pervious versions of Firefox before the beta.

Try manually resetting the software update feature, for details of how to do that see the "Software Update not working properly" section of this site - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update

I'm sorry but it did not work, I did everything step by step, and I still get the same message that the update could not be installed due to another version of firefox being ran on my system... when clearly there is nothing else running, and I am the only user on this computer.

You can download the full beta 8 installer and uninstall the beta 7 and if necessary delete the program folder in which that version is installed ("C:\Program files\Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 7\firefox.exe").

When I had this problem, I found that indeed an instance of firefox.exe was running, but the only evidence was in the Task Manager Processes tab. Once I hit the "end process" button, I was able to install Beta 8. Hope that helps....but I don't know why the process was still there, as I had quit Beta 7. When I quit, however, I had saved the tabs I was using.

Well it seems I was able to finally fix this problem. After a fresh reboot of my system, the update worked. I don't understand though why it would not let me update before the system reboot though.
