I'm setting up a laptop and want to have all the bookmarks from my desk machine to be moved there from different accounts, but in end up in one file so that I don't have to have loads of separate accounts.

You need to export the bookmarks to an HTML file, and then import that file. For details on doing that see exporting bookmarks to an HTML file and importing Bookmarks from an HTML File.

If this is likely to create duplicate bookmarks, you can check for them and delete them using the CheckPlaces add-on.

If you would like to keep the bookmarks in the laptop and desktop in sync, you can use the Firefox Sync add-on. Firefox Sync will be built into Firefox 4.

Could I ask TonyE to consider this problem:

I would like to export a folder (one folder only) of web page bookmarks so that friends can import it and have instant access to my recommended web pages.

I know I can export the whole bookmarks file as an HTML file, and I can edit that in notepad but I don't know how to save it back to a Mozilla bookmarks HTML file so that a friend can import it and find one new folder on his/her regular bookmarks folder - with all my helpful wep page bookmarks lined up neatly inside.

I also know I can edit down my bookmarks to just that one folder then export that - but I'm afraid of losing all my other precious bookmarks in the process.

I would be very grateful if TonyE (or anybody else, for that matter!) with any ideas would get intouch wi9th me directly at editor@thewordsmityh.co.za, since I don't know how to be sure to see replies in this forum.

Thanks a bunch

Talk about editors! Physician heal thyself, etc. The email address should read editor@thewordsmith.co.za, of course. Ooops!

You need to combine all the links to one HTML file.

You only need a file with Anchor links like this:

<a href="https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/754997">How do I move booksmark to another machine without replacing the bookmarks on the new machine, i.e combine a number of bookmark files | Firefox Support Forum | Firefox Support</a>

If you export bookmarks to an HTML file then you create a copy of your bookmarks and you edit that copy and you do not affect the original bookmarks.
