Hi mightyizmidget:

I ran a security scan with my Secunia PSI 2.0 program and it reports that I have the fully patched v. 3.2.2.26 MetaStream plugin installed at the following location:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Experience Technology\AxMetaStream.dll

As far as I can tell, it was installed with my Windows Media Player 11.0 . I'm not certain if uninstalling the Viewpoint Media Player from my Control Panel would just remove the plugin or if this would uninstall the entire Windows Media Player installation. I suspect the latter, since I can't see any other way to uninstall my Windows Media Player from the Control Panel.

I did notice a file named MtsAxInstaller.exe in C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Experience Technology, so this may be the installer required to remove the plugin.

The Viewpoint Technologies site at http://www.viewpoint.com/technologies/viewpoint-media-player.shtml#system-requirements shows that the browser plugin isn't currently compatible with Firefox 3.x.

mightyizmidget:

Just wanted to confirm that uninstalling the Viewpoint Media Player from the Control Panel removed the disabled MetaStream v. 3.2.2.26 plugin from my Firefox browser. My Windows Media Player is still working normally and doesn't appear to have been affected.

If you use the free Revo Unistaller (available for download here) to uninstall the Viewpoint Media Player plugin, this uninstaller will clean up quite a few orphaned files and registry entries that are left behind when the Viewpoint uninstaller is run from the Control Panel.

FF disabled the plugin but I wanted to remove it anyway. It's associated with the Viewpoint Player, found the folder in Program Files but couldn't see it in Add/Remove Programs. Reading that it can be used to deliver 3D content into media, found out the culprit was a recent update for Adobe Acrobat, "Adobe Atmosphere Player". Uninstalling that allowed the MetaStream 3 plugin to be freed up and removed from within FF (although once it's free from FF disabling it, there are other options available).

Thanks goes out to Imacri for their previous posts.
