firefox getting slower and slower
firefox has been working great all of a sudden pages are taking longer and longer to load and unable to load search engines,in firefox or explorer. search engines work fine on second computer.
Chosen solution
Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode (don't forget to select Disable all add-ons when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and this one for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.
i have run spyware terminator, disabled all add- ons and this had made no difference. Search engines still don't work and still slow, this is starting to get annoying please help
Can you please try it in a new (temporary) Firefox profile and see if the issue is still present? See this article to know how to create a new Firefox profile. Please report back the results.
don't understand how a new profile made pages load like they used to, thank you for that. But i still can't get any search engines to load up, they wont load on explorer either

have worked on it all day and ad-aware free has come through as the winner. It picked up all malware and a trojan that the others couldn't and it deleted them for me, fire fox is back to its normal speed and all search engines are working. Thank you for your help and i hope this will work for others.
it's off topic host in etc directory:
for host file editing try hostmanager software
also look up dhcp service - start and stopping and disable dns client service write/save notes , research , backup, test and review before making any changes
Hello, My problem is similar, but just restarting Firefox gets it back to normal. If I leave it open for some days, then it starts getting slower and slower, does not always show up menu (Only a contour). I then close it, restart and it is back to normal ! I have seen this behavior since version 2 of Firefox. On my MacBook, it does the same thing, but finishes by crashing at some point. On Windows, it didn't crash so far. I tried to wait to have it crash, but just keep going, slowly ! Since it takes a while before it starts slowing down, it is difficult to troubleshoot... Any help or suggestions would be welcome.
I am having the same problem as GTA_doum. Firefox gets slower and slower if left open for a day or two, and then when I restart Firefox it's fine for a day or two and then gets slower and slower. Help!
