Let us see how to set Firefox Home Page. You can use this feature to define which window(s) and/or web page(s), Firefox should display when it starts up. If you always visit a website when Firefox starts up, you can make that website your Home page. This Home page will open whenever you start Firefox. Else, if you wish to continue working where you left off in your previous session, you can set Firefox to open those very windows and/or website(s) automatically for you. A real time saver! There are other options too. Lets explore them all.



How to set the Home Page

Note: For Firefox to display the Home page, as explained below, you will have to select Show my home page from the drop-down list following When Firefox starts: (see "Define page(s) to open when Firefox Starts").

You can decide which window(s)/web page(s) you want to be your Home page. The Home page will open for you when Firefox starts or when you click the Home icon on the Navigation toolbar. Thus, setting a Home page helps you start working/playing immediately after Firefox starts. The scene is ready and set, waiting for your actions!

The General Panel of Options window lets you to set your Home page.

  1. In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Firefox and then select Preferences or Settings, depending on your macOS version.Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings.
  2. Click on General panel if some other panel is highlighted.

  3. Click on one of the three buttons, from the Startup box, to choose your Home page as per the options mentioned below:
    • Current open pages as Home page: Open a single or all the windows/websites you wish to be your home page and click on the Use Current Pages button and you are done! Now, these window(s) and/or website(s) will be your Home page and will open for you, whenever you startup Firefox.
    • Bookmark as Home page: Click on the Use Bookmark... button and a window opens showing all your Bookmarks. Select the desired Bookmark and click OK. The window will close and the selected Bookmarked website will now be your Home page. This will save you some clicks every day to open the Bookmarked website. In fact, you will not have to use any clicks, the site will be opened for you as soon as Firefox starts!
    • Default page as Home page: To err is human... so, you can always cancel the changes made above by simply clicking the Restore to Default button! Now the default page will be your Home page.
  4. Close the Settings page. Any changes you've made will automatically be saved.

Define page(s) to open when Firefox Starts

You can control how Firefox should start for you. This is a helpful feature which saves you time, especially if you lack it (who doesn't!).

The General Panel of Options window lets you to set the Firefox Start page.

  1. In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Firefox and then select Preferences or Settings, depending on your macOS version.Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings.
  2. Click on General panel if some other panel is highlighted.

  3. Click on the drop-down list next to When Firefox starts: and choose one of the following three options from the drop-down list:
    • To display Home page at Startup: Selecting Show my home page will open a single or multiple windows/web pages, depending on your settings in "Home Page:", when Firefox starts. This is explained under "How to set the Home Page", above.
    • To a have blank page as Home page: If you select Show a blank page, Firefox will always open up a blank page at startup.
    • To continue working where you left off: Select Show my windows and tabs from last time. Now, when you exit Firefox without closing single or multiple open windows and/or tabs, Firefox will open the same windows and/or tabs, open in the previous session, at startup.
  4. Close the Settings page. Any changes you've made will automatically be saved.


Try Out: While working with multiple open windows/tabs, select Show my windows and tabs from last time, as mentioned above, and Exit Firefox. When you open Firefox the next time around you will find all the same windows/tabs open, as in the previous session, and you can immediately proceed working where you left off. A feature incorporated surely to make your life easy!
