Questions re Email Inbox and Reply window:

1) I can't find a list here showing the Inbox icons and what they mean, specifically this one. I can't delete it, nor do I see anything in the inbox list of column indicators that it might be. I'd like to know what it's for and if/how it can be removed.

2) I want to have more space for the message pane; the only way to do this is to have a smaller font size for the email List pane. I don't see where I can change this. Is it possible to decrease this font size? I've tried but haven't t been able to locate info on this website.)

3) Reply font: I keep changing it to my Preference, but it keeps going back to a default.

Also, find it annoying that I can't select a specific font SIZE. I've never seen a Windows desktop software of ANY kind, not just email, which doesn't give have choice of font size as well as the font itself. Is there a suggestion area on this website?

Thanks.

When I try to forward a message, the document format gets encoded and shows up with a bunch of technical details like ""Delivered-To:", "X-Google-Smtp-Source:", "X-Received:" and many others. I haven't included the data to the right of each item, as I'm not sure what it means or how it's related to solving the issue of the encoded format. This problem started after the latest update was installed. Can anyone advise me on what steps I should take to be able to forward email messages in a readable format? I am using Thunderbird release 128.1.0esr (64 bit) on Windows 10 Thank you, Paul

I'm on Thunderbird Nebula 128.1.0esr 64-bit. I use IMAP and I have multiple accounts in my Thunderbird configuration. I have Google Workspace for our business which I can received and read email by IMAP, but I cannot send. I also have a personal Gmail account and that can send and receive.

Yesterday Google experienced a global outage and as best I can tell it has somehow screwed up the OAuth2 Session / Tokens for some Thunderbird clients. Over on Reddit there are other users reporting the issue and it appears to be a bigger issue on Workspace accounts. It does not affect the entire Workspace domain. In our business, I have other users who are on Thunderbird and can still send/receive email on the same Workspace hosted domain that I am having issues with.

I have gone into Settings > Privacy & Security > Saved Passwords and removed the entries for the account that I'm having problems with. That did cause Thunderbird to spawn the browser window to Google to carry through with OAuth2 token approval. That got me back into receiving email, but I still can't send via SMTP.

When trying to send I get the following dialog, but clicking Enter New Password just does nothing and the Dialog just reloads again. I attempted to add a new SMTP Server in Thunderbird, but that never prompts a new OAuth2 dialog for that new server and same Dialog box appears.

and I immediately began scrambling to get it back. I found this somewhere: "Don't Delete Files" is the preferred option because it saves the old profile's folder and allows you to recover the files to a new profile. So that gave me hope because that's what I had clicked (unfortunately, it was right before I saw the cancel button over on the right). That's what I get for being in a hurry I guess.

Anyhow, after 4 days of reading support forums and tons of trial and error, I'm no closer to restoring that profile than when I first started (although I've learned a lot about what does NOT work).

Btw, both my profiles have always been set up as POP3 at Gmail, although if I ever get this current problem sorted out I'll be shopping for a different POP3 provider. But that's another story.

I know how to create a new profile with Profile Manager. And I found the Profiles folders under both Thunderbird folder as well as ThunderbirdOLD folder. Have I been on the right track so far?

In the Thunderbird/Profiles folder, I don't see a folder with the deleted profile name (except the new ones (duds) I've since created ). On the other hand, I don't see the name of the profile that I did NOT delete either, but somehow it seems to be working just fine. Maybe it's the ".default" folder or ".default-release" folder? I've only ever had two profiles and I may have created the non-deleted profile first, so did that one end up being named .default? -shrug- I have no clue.

Anyhow, in the ThunderbirdOLD/Profiles folder, I also see ".default" as well as ".default-release" folders too. But in addition, I'm seeing a ".deletedprofile" named folder. So that's where I originally thought my several dozen email folders with several thousand emails and Address Book etc are hiding. But I've copied all the above mentioned folders into the several new Profiles I've created, on a trial and error basis but so far..... no luck. All I get when I open one is the new set up screen to set up a new pop3 account.... which I can do, but that's just starting from scratch without any of my saved data. I'm running out of ideas.

Where am I going wrong?

Thank you to David & Toad-Hall who kindly worked to get my Thunderbird to download my messages from Juno in a series of support messages in mid-July.

I have worked with KW, a computer help person at my senior center. I have a follow up appointment with KW on Fri 8/16, 1 pm MDT. Last session KW succeeded in re-setting the STMP server port to 25 and the POP3 server to 110. See screen shots.

This did NOT enable Tbird to download my messages from JUNO. There was a' change, Tbird would no longer SEND messages via my Juno account, earlier it would send test messages. see 3rd screen shot

Like Toad-Hall, KW is suspicious that the last message Tbird downloaded from Juno 6/26 that directed me to reset my password in Juno was malicious. We reset my password and Juno & Tbird both open with the new password I set up directly from the Juno webpage.

KW suggests I ask you if it is possible to deinstall & reinstall Tbird, Might that restore Tbird to function? Would I lose the contents of my saved messages in folders?

Additional screen shots, maybe useful info.

I really love my Thunderbird! I like to work off-line, I like storing my files on my computer computer.

For the second time in the past month, I'm getting a mysterious message every time I open Thunderbird. I'm getting the following message:

"Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead

Thunderbird detected a potential security threat and did not continue to live.thunderbird.net. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details."

In addition, I'm unable to send or receive anything to my gmail addresses. On the other hand, my earthlink addresses are working fine.

The last time this happened, eighteen days ago, the problem mysteriously disappeared ten minutes later. No such luck this time; it's now been about twenty minutes and no sign that the problem is going away.

Help, help, help!!!

Is there a way to show only the inbox's unread count in the sidebar when the account is collapsed?

Currently any unread messages are being counted, but personally I would like a way to only show the count number if those messages are in the inbox.

One example of this is sometimes I do not need to read a message and immediately archive it without reading and do not need to include that in the count, but its still nice to leave it unread in the All Mail folder just for future reference.

Been a Tbird user (and donor) for years. Last few months sending Gmail is slow, frequently:

Often 30-60 seconds with just text in email Can be >60 seconds when forwarding an email with embedded links or when sending an attachment.

My setup below. No other app or network issues on my 2 year old Dell Windows 11 PC or with other devices in my home Eero mesh network. No non-Tbird Gmail problems from my phone or iPad.

Any simple solutions here? Thanks.

After getting help from you to delete all Thunderbird data on my old laptop (Many thanks David!) I successfully installed a new copy of the software. I copied all the information that my desktop p.c. uses to collect my emails but the new Thunderbird on my laptop will not accept the server and logon information. "Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account" They work without any problems with Thunderbird on my PC. There does not seem to be an option to manually set up the server information. I have tried both POP3 and IMAP but neither work. Any help welcome.

Have used Thunderbird with Comcast/Xfinity for over 10 years. I can receive all of my email on Thunderbird. About 6 months ago I started to not be able to send emails from Thunderbird sporadically, but it has escalated to the point of not being able to send emails of my comcast.net accounts at all. From my gmail accounts I can send messages just fine through Thunderbird. Three weeks ago I spent 2 hours on the phone with Xfinity. Reset all the passwords, checked all the settings, etc etc. For the rest of that day I could send all emails through Thunderbird. Ever since that day, same problem. I spent another 2 hours on the phone yesterday with Xfinity and they are sending my issue to a 3rd or 4th tier support person. They say there is no guarantee they will find a solution and that I won't hear back until Monday or Tuesday. Also this is the same problem on 2 different computers. One computer has the newest Thunderbird update to version 128.1.0esr and the other has the last version of Thunderbird as 115.14.0.

Here is the exact error message I get when I try to send an email:

Sending of message failed. An error occurred while sending mail: Outgoing server (SMTP) error. The server responded: resomta-s2p-647654.sys.comcast.net resomta-s2p-647654.sys.comcast.net Excessive failed authentication, ESMTP server temporarily not available.

The numbers after s2p- change for each attempt to send an email.

Believe me I have tried all sorts of different settings and I have read practically all of the solutions I could find on Mozilla's support forums and articles.

Really need help on this one. Jennifer

I'm under the impression that the following setup used to work well, but ceased to sometime in the past:

Filter 1: ("junk from unknown senders"), enabled. - Apply filter when: Manually run, Getting new mail -> Filter before Junk Classification. - Match all of the following: From - isn't in my address book - Personal Address Book. - Perform these actions: Set Junk Status to: Junk.

Filter 2: ("delete all junk"), enabled. - Apply filter when: Manually run, Getting new mail -> Filter after Junk Classification. - Match all of the following: Junk status - is - Junk. - Perform these actions: Move Message to - Junk on myaddress@myprovider.com.

Filter 2 is lower down the list of filters.

Filter 2 works as I expect it when I run it manually with 'Tools'->'Run Filters on Folder'. However it is either never executed, or never succeeds in moving messages to the Junk folder when it is called automatically under the "Getting new mail" condition. I check mail automatically every 10 minutes on this IMAP account, but the messages marked as Junk by filter 1 are never moved to the Junk folder.

What might explain this?

Thanks and appreciation to all the volunteers answering questions for the public on this site.

Details: running v115.13.0 on Debian.

With the recent update to Mozilla (128.1.Oesr), I'm no longer able to check my email at my work address. I get an invalid certificate error. So how do I stop it?
