Dear support, I got an e-mail from Microsoft, that they're not gonna allow regular password authentification coming September and I've had trouble connecting one of my two hotmail.com-accounts for months now (the apparently common problem where it claims that the password is incorrect - which it isn't). I thought, it's a perfect opportunity to fix both these issued by getting the OAuth2 thing to work. I'm on Windows 11 using TB 115.12.2 I can't get it to work : ( I did all the steps in this article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/microsoft-oauth-authentication-and-thunderbird-202 except that I couldn't select OAuth2 for my former smpt outgoing server (sorry if I'm using these words wrong, I really have no expertise in this area) "smtp-mail.outlook.com" - it's not in the dropdown menu. I tried forcing it in over the confid editor (which worked, I mean, I could open the pop-up again and it would have the OAuth2 selected), but no mails. I tried to instead just put in that office365 server that is given in all the examples (since I don't know how anything works, I thought I'd give it a try). There I could regularly select the OAuth2, but it still didn't work. I should get some pop-up or browser-thing or something to do this fun verification thing but I don't and I really don't know what to do.. I tried resetting everthing back to it's former state but now my main hotmail-account also has the wrong-password-problem... : (( Do you have any good ideas? I had three unread messages and this showed correctly in my task bar icon. I click on one of the messages to read it and the counter showed no nread messages.

How can I fix this?

Hello, Is it safe to delete this trash file? C:\Users\(user)\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\8man8wy0.default\Mail\pop.secureserver-1.net\trash//

It is simply named 'trash' and has no file type (file type just says 'file'), and is for a mail server I don't use anymore (pop.sercureserver). It also says it hasn't been modified in four years.

The reason I want to delete it is because Kaspersky antivirus detected four dangerous objects there that it can't resolve or delete and won't let me quarantine. Strangely, they're all from 2016.

I already tried manually looking for the emails in Thunderbird, permanently deleted trash emails, and compacted folders, but even after that and restarting the computer several times Kaspersky still finds them. Unfortunately, because of the ban on Kaspersky in the USA, I can't post to their message boards to ask for help.

So, is it safe to delete the file 'trash?' And would I need to delete Trash.msf and/or the folder Trash.sbd also?

Any assistance would be much appreciated, thank you.

I have many emails and enquiries and probably stored away well over a million in 27 years of correspondence as a tourism business. Thunderbird was extremely reliable, but since default threads introduced it is now unreliable are now very difficult to remove as all I want to do is view each email individually (no linking to anything) and search by name, date, or specific word. The experience of using Thunderbird is now frustrating because of threads that seem impossible to remove, time sorting etc. I have even tried going back to an older version, but lost a lot of mails in doing so.

My question after reading all the possible methods of removing Threads and having no success, would the wonderful creators of Thunderbird possibly consider creating an email browser version which simplified would give a viewing experience without any threads, or even an option of threads.. just going back to an older version of no threads at all without losing data?

After several hours of sheer frustration, including reading a significant number of posts I am still without result.

Thunderbird keeps asking for my my password for both my SMTP and IMAP settings despite all of these being correct.

I have checked with my domain and email provider (mail.1stdomains.co.nz) and they inform me that it appears to be a thunderbird settings.

Checking the thunderbird settings they are correct including passwords, however, the mail client just refuses to download the mail providing a dialogue box with "login to account "<PRIVACY>" failed. Enter new password, Cancel, Retry.

Is there some way to fix this error?

I installed t-bird in my outlook folder. Now there are replicas of my personal email data with suffixes .sbd and .msf. What is their purpose and can I delete them?

bold textThis is for my dad he has 3 different accounts on his Thunderbird account his own my moms and a gmail account. it is a web based account through comcast/xfinity . he has it set up for pop3.. he is using 115 version. any way every time he would try to sign in to his account it would come up with my moms account he would put in the password he thought he had and it did not work. Had he was unable to send and receive from his own account. I had him go to Comcast/ Xfinity and change the password which he did and tried again to get into his Thunderbird account and it for the Primary password and he puts in waht he just changed in Comcast it did not /does not work. what can he do. He had gone away for a few days unplugged his computer but tht should not have changed any thing. thanks what can he do.

Under Account Settings, I went to synchronization&storage, clicked Advanced to be sure the files would be available offline. I exited Thunderbird & used File Explorer to go to my root directory to Profiles. There were 2 files, one with the ext of .default-esr which was a large file. The other with ext of .default which was a very small file. I copied both of these to an external drive. Under Account Settings I went to Copies & Folders & under Message Archives, I didn't know what to choose. I need to know how to copy to the Local Folders of the profile for each email account which is 2, Gmail & Hotmail or Outlook. Thanks.

I changed setting for 'unsent message' from 'alert me' to 'no'. Suddenly 'in' for ljboland@verizon.net show no read nor unread 'in box' and the Sent messages do not appear as tho there are none but on top ' 2201 messages' is shown.

I have been fighting this for a while but I do not receive emails from people with gmail accounts. My email service is from gmx.com that I access from thunderbird. Several months ago I suddenly stopped getting my wife's emails. She now texts me if she needs to send me something. Now the same problem with my daughter's gmail account. I have not received emails from some others that are probably also gmail accounts. I don't seem to have a problem getting emails from accounts other than gmail.

If I go to the gmx site, the emails are there but they are not being downloaded by thunderbird. Thunderbird does download all the other emails, just not the ones from gmail accounts. I have checked my message filters and there are no filters that reference gmail. How can I fix this?

Any anyone ever had Thunderbird Email Filter REALLY work? I never have.

- Some emails do get sent to my Junk Folder (where I have it assigned to go to). - Some emails are noted as Junk, but not filtered to the Junk Folder (please see Image). - Some emails are still coming thru as normal emails, with no notification.

I've added an Image of how I set the Email Filter for every SPAM email.

I got an email from Microsoft saying my Live.com or Outlook.com email accounts won't be supported in Thunderbird UNLESS I change the settings to OAuth2 in incoming and outgoing server settings.

I even REMOVED the email account and re-added it making sure it was OAuth2.

But for my live.com & outlook.com email accounts I continually get prompts for passwords from Thunderbird. Sometimes I can't even click the RED X at the upper right to shut the prompt down. I just happens over and over until I give it what it wants.

I am tempted to shut down all Microsoft email accounts and switch to Gmail.

I have Thunderbird version 115.12.2 (64-bit) I used Windows 11 23H2 build 22631.3810 Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1020.0

Any idea how to stop these prompts?

I like Thunderbird much more than any other email program I have ever used, and would like to keep it

Tried installing v115 latest on Ubuntu. Hangs when I try to set up email acc and it tries to log into the Gmail server. "Danger ahead" displayed on page with no option to force it to proceed.

Thus please dispense with any solutions for this and just inform how I can install v91.1.2 using apt-get

I see you list the versions but I see no where on how to specify which version to install.

Does "mailnews.localizedRe" still work? If yes, how?

The (preinstalled) default value is "AW,Aw,aw". But when I reply to a message whose subject line begins with "AW:", Thunderbird prepends it with "Re:", so that after a few back and forths we have silly subjects like "Re: AW: Re: AW: Re: AW: .............. ".

Has "mailnews.localizedRe" stopped working? Or how can I get it to work? Thank you!
