Since update to ver 128.1.0esr the "new subfolder" feature does not work (does not show window to name new folder). I have many subfolders and I rely on them heavily. I tried restarting Thunderbird, then Windows. I ran in debug mode with no success. I downloaded and installed 128.2.0esr again. No change.

Is it possible to go back to the earlier version? Which is? Thanks, Frederick

Is there any way to set up TB to have only ONE Delete action per keypress? That does not mean a limit of one message per Delete keypress -- for example, if multiple messages are selected, then a single Delete keypress should delete all selected -- but just that the Delete key must be released and pressed again for successive Delete actions.

[Searching on this topic before asking, I noticed a number of questions regarding multiple unwanted or inadvertent Delete actions, which all seem to boil down to this question, but could not find an instance where this simple question was asked, let alone answered.]

I could not find anything in TB Settings or Config Editor (searching "delete", "keypress", "key"). There were a few suggestive Config Editor variables containing "key", but none seemed on-point. Is there any documentation on Config variables?

and I immediately began scrambling to get it back. I found this somewhere: "Don't Delete Files" is the preferred option because it saves the old profile's folder and allows you to recover the files to a new profile. So that gave me hope because that's what I had clicked (unfortunately, it was right before I saw the cancel button over on the right). That's what I get for being in a hurry I guess.

Anyhow, after 4 days of reading support forums and tons of trial and error, I'm no closer to restoring that profile than when I first started (although I've learned a lot about what does NOT work).

Btw, both my profiles have always been set up as POP3 at Gmail, although if I ever get this current problem sorted out I'll be shopping for a different POP3 provider. But that's another story.

I know how to create a new profile with Profile Manager. And I found the Profiles folders under both Thunderbird folder as well as ThunderbirdOLD folder. Have I been on the right track so far?

In the Thunderbird/Profiles folder, I don't see a folder with the deleted profile name (except the new ones (duds) I've since created ). On the other hand, I don't see the name of the profile that I did NOT delete either, but somehow it seems to be working just fine. Maybe it's the ".default" folder or ".default-release" folder? I've only ever had two profiles and I may have created the non-deleted profile first, so did that one end up being named .default? -shrug- I have no clue.

Anyhow, in the ThunderbirdOLD/Profiles folder, I also see ".default" as well as ".default-release" folders too. But in addition, I'm seeing a ".deletedprofile" named folder. So that's where I originally thought my several dozen email folders with several thousand emails and Address Book etc are hiding. But I've copied all the above mentioned folders into the several new Profiles I've created, on a trial and error basis but so far..... no luck. All I get when I open one is the new set up screen to set up a new pop3 account.... which I can do, but that's just starting from scratch without any of my saved data. I'm running out of ideas.

Where am I going wrong?

When I start up my Windows 10 laptop, Thunderbird tries to connect to my Hotmail email account, but it can no longer make the connection to the Outlook imap server (imap-mail.outlook.com) apparently because my password is no longer accepted. I just get the message box "Login to server imap-mail.outlook.com with username neil.january@hotmail.com failed - enter new password". There is no new password. I have not changed the password, and Thunderbird was connecting without trouble until a few days ago. What should I do?

Emails still get through to my Android phone with no trouble.

Hi,

I've used Thunderbird for a long time and not had this issue.

Something must have changed because now every time I click "attach" and browse to a file I want to attach such as a simple jpg or pdf, Thunderbird just crashes and asks if I want to send an error report. This is reproducible 100% of the time.

If I drag and drop the attachment to the composition window, the issue does not occur. It only occurs when using the "attach" button and the browser.

It's Thunderbird 128.1.0esr and I'm on Windows 11 23H2.

Here is the output of the log when it crashes: AdapterDeviceID: 0x67df AdapterDriverVersion: 31.0.21916.2 AdapterSubsysID: 23111458 AdapterVendorID: 0x1002 Add-ons: marcoagpinto%40mail.telepac.pt:3.3.5,google%40search.mozilla.org:1.0,bing%40search.mozilla.org:1.0,amazon%40search.mozilla.org:1.1,chambers-en-GB%40search.mozilla.org:1.0,ddg%40search.mozilla.org:1.0,wikipedia%40search.mozilla.org:1.0,thunderbird-compact-dark%40mozilla.org:1.3 AvailablePageFile: 32908718080 AvailablePhysicalMemory: 40984047616 AvailableVirtualMemory: 138513350746112 BackgroundTaskMode: 0 BuildID: 20240730200333 CPUMicrocodeVersion: 0xa601206 ContentSandboxCapable: 1 ContentSandboxLevel: 1 ContentSandboxWin32kState: Win32k Lockdown enabled -- default value is true CrashTime: 1723630140 DOMFissionEnabled: 1 DOMIPCEnabled: 1 EMCheckCompatibility: true GPUProcessLaunchCount: 1 GPUProcessStatus: Running GpuSandboxLevel: 1 HeadlessMode: 0 InstallTime: 1723091690 LastStartupWasCrash: 0 LauncherProcessState: 0 ModuleSignatureInfo: {"ADAPP SASU":["dokan2.dll","dokannp2.dll"],"Apple Inc.":["mdnsNSP.dll"],"Microsoft Corporation":["FileSyncShell64.dll"],"Microsoft Windows":["dlnashext.dll","IconCodecService.dll","usp10.dll","wpdshext.dll","PlayToDevice.dll","adsldpc.dll","wscapi.dll","activeds.dll","mssprxy.dll","globinputhost.dll","oledlg.dll","cscui.dll","atlthunk.dll","duser.dll","dui70.dll","EhStorShell.dll","wtdccm.dll","sfc_os.dll","NetworkExplorer.dll","pcacli.dll","uiautomationcore.dll","winmmbase.dll","linkinfo.dll","winspool.drv","msimg32.dll","GdiPlus.dll","dbgcore.dll","thumbcache.dll","ktmw32.dll","ksuser.dll","cscapi.dll","wdmaud.drv","ntshrui.dll","midimap.dll","msacm32.dll","msacm32.drv","PhotoMetadataHandler.dll","ondemandconnroutehelper.dll","explorerframe.dll","dataexchange.dll","oleacc.dll","Windows.Storage.Search.dll","wpnapps.dll","StructuredQuery.dll","directmanipulation.dll","textinputframework.dll","msxml6.dll","TextShaping.dll","Bcp47Langs.dll","Windows.Globalization.dll","Windows.UI.Immersive.dll","windowsudk.shellcommon.dll","Windows.Security.Integrity.dll","davclnt.dll","ntlanman.dll","EhStorAPI.dll","drprov.dll","p9np.dll","comctl32.dll","netapi32.dll","twinapi.dll","cldapi.dll","srvcli.dll","urlmon.dll","edputil.dll","AudioSes.dll","Windows.FileExplorer.Common.dll","BCP47mrm.dll","Windows.UI.dll","MrmCoreR.dll","OneCoreCommonProxyStub.dll","wininet.dll","DevDispItemProvider.dll","iertutil.dll","mpr.dll","MMDevAPI.dll","Windows.StateRepositoryPS.dll","mscms.dll","OneCoreUAPCommonProxyStub.dll","twinapi.appcore.dll","actxprxy.dll","windows.staterepositoryclient.dll","Windows.System.Launcher.dll","CoreUIComponents.dll","directxdatabasehelper.dll","windows.staterepositorycore.dll","xmllite.dll","odbc32.dll","nlansp_c.dll","winrnr.dll","pnrpnsp.dll","NapiNSP.dll","wsock32.dll","DWrite.dll","dcomp.dll","winmm.dll","CoreMessaging.dll","mlang.dll","FWPUCLNT.DLL","apphelp.dll","avrt.dll","PortableDeviceApi.dll","wshbth.dll","version.dll","wkscli.dll","PortableDeviceTypes.dll","winhttp.dll","rasadhlp.dll","dhcpcsvc.dll","dhcpcsvc6.DLL","msvcp110_win.dll","policymanager.dll","samcli.dll","WindowsCodecs.dll","uxtheme.dll","dxgi.dll","dwmapi.dll","winnsi.dll","DXCore.dll","resourcepolicyclient.dll","WinTypes.dll","windows.storage.dll","propsys.dll","dbghelp.dll","slc.dll","winsta.dll","netutils.dll","IPHLPAPI.DLL","dnsapi.dll","umpdc.dll","powrprof.dll","wtsapi32.dll","secur32.dll","kernel.appcore.dll","ntmarta.dll","sspicli.dll","mswsock.dll","userenv.dll","CRYPTBASE.DLL","msasn1.dll","devobj.dll","cfgmgr32.dll","dpapi.dll","ServicingCommon.dll","sxs.dll","profapi.dll","msvcp_win.dll","ucrtbase.dll","gdi32full.dll","bcryptPrimitives.dll","KERNELBASE.dll","wintrust.dll","bcrypt.dll","win32u.dll","crypt32.dll","ole32.dll","clbcatq.dll","rpcrt4.dll","user32.dll","shlwapi.dll","nsi.dll","oleaut32.dll","gdi32.dll","advapi32.dll","imm32.dll","msvcrt.dll","combase.dll","Wldap32.dll","shell32.dll","SHCore.dll","kernel32.dll","setupapi.dll","psapi.dll","coml2.dll","sechost.dll","msctf.dll","ws2_32.dll","ntdll.dll"],"Microsoft Windows Software Compatibility Publisher":["msvcp140.dll","VCRUNTIME140_1.dll","VCRUNTIME140.dll"],"Mozilla Corporation":["thunderbird.exe","rnp.dll","gkcodecs.dll","freebl3.dll","nss3.dll","mozglue.dll","nssckbi.dll","softokn3.dll","lgpllibs.dll","xul.dll"],"PARAMOUNT SOFTWARE UK LIMITED":["RShellEx.dll"]} Notes: Has dual GPUs. Dear,

I get a daily mail from my solar panel (convertor) supplier with my daily (solar) energy production profile. This mail gets 'labeled' as a potential scam by Thunderbird systematically. I'm 100% confident these mails are not scams...

Of course, I could just uncheck the scam detection flag in the settings, but I do appreciate the extra protection this detection offers!

Your site says litteraly: "Why does Thunderbird tell me that a legitimate message is a scam? Thunderbird's detection algorithm isn't perfect and, unlike its spam filter, does not learn or adapt based on your email flags. ..."

Could the detection algorithm not be changed, so that it learns? Or so that, if the user has unflagged mails, it no longer flags similar (almost identical) mails?

Thanks (wholehartedly!) for Thunderbird. And for your attention, of course... Marc Claes

Dear friends. I have bee using portable version of Thunderbird for years on my pendrive. I have a need of using it on Windows 10 32bit and Windows 64bit alternately. And I never had any problems. Thunderbird portable was first configured on Windows 10 32bit system and also used on the 64bit one. Last version of Thunderbird portable working fine on both machines was 115.13.0. But after several updates downloaded automatically my Thunderbird 64bit portable is no longer compatible with 32bit Windows. Message on 32bit system is: "You are trying tp use an older profile" or something like that. Fortunately I have a backup of my Thunderbird, I turned all updates off and still can use 115.13.0 on both 32 and 64 bit systems. But I know that I need to update Thunderbird regularly for security reasons. How can I resolve this problem? After any update in my 64bit OS Thunderbird is no longer operational on 32bit.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Best regards Vlad

I'm not sure if this is a new feature in Thunderbird or whether it's due to me setting up a new account whose server was IMAP - but either way...

Sent and received emails used to appear in their own (linear) list but I'm suddenly finding that sends and replies are appearing now in something called a Collapsed List. These can end up out of sequence and (I assume...) it's not possible to delete one entry without deleting all the entries underneath it?

So is there a setting somewhere where I can go back to the original linear arrangement?

Tbird 128.1.0esr (64-bit), Windows 10 64 bit

When forwarding an email, the background colour of the forwarded email is used for the background colour of my explanatory email above the forward so this changes from white to the background colour of the forwarded email. It also changes the indent to jam new text in my email against the page edge. This also happens in troubleshooting mode.

This does not happen with a reply.

I've read many threads on this, none of which seems to work. Most grateful for assistance to finally get rid of these phantom folders.

Problem: Multiple folders in an IMAP account that simply will not delete.

Symptom: Folder exists in an IMAP account that has all folders as sub-folders under Inbox. Some folders are empty and appear greyed out and italicized. Deleting them sends them to the Deleted folder (or if the appropriate setting is changed, to be immediately deleted). Emptying the Deleted folder appears to get rid of the deleted folders, but restart and they reappear.

Attempted Fixes: As suggested in various places, have tried these things, none of which work:

  • Immediate delete (setting and also simply deleting in the Deleted folder)
  • Creating a new folder of a different name and renaming it to the affected folder, then deleting -- would not rename new folder, and phantom folder remained
  • Completely removing the account (settings and data) and recreating

Other Actions: I have checked the actual IMAP account via a webmail interface and none of the folders exist in the account.

For the past couple of months, every time I boot up my computer and launch Thunderbird I get the attached error messages for each of my email accounts (2 Hotmail and one Outlook)

Repeatedly clicking "retry" often results in success but sometimes I get the second message indicating the server has disconnected. Usually, after a few minutes things settle down, the messages come through and all is well but it is a nuisance. I would switch to using Outlook but it cannot send multiple emails which I periodically need to do and I don't want to encourage Microsoft's near monopoly of computer technology.

I have tried accepting coookies as advised elsewhere in here and tried turning on O Oath as my authentication method but this just got me another error message saying this authentication "was not supported on this platform" (whatever that means??) Anyway, I reverted to using "simple password" which does eventually work.

I looked at 2 factor authentication but that proved to be impossible to understand and, in any case, I rarely carry a 'phone with me and do not want to clutter my 'phone up with more apps. I use 2 factor authentication on a lot of my confidential accounts and none of these were as complicated to set up as this one and certainly did not invole scanning QR codes and installing special apps.

Will this bug be fixed by more updates to Thunderbird or is there some other way of solving this problem.
