I'm on tb 128 and use roadrunner. I see my emails on spectrum server but can't download them? I was using pop, they said imap is needed.

I have used Thunderbird for several years with two emails from brighthouse.com (now spectrum). One of the accounts recently (2 week) started prompting for password and never accepts my password as valid. I still can get emails on it but can't send.

I am using the same password I use to get access to account on my second email account on Thunderbird, as well as the spectrum webmail app, and my cell phone without issue.

Attached are screenshots of the server settings for IMAP and SMTP. Your help would be appreciated.

and I immediately began scrambling to get it back. I found this somewhere: "Don't Delete Files" is the preferred option because it saves the old profile's folder and allows you to recover the files to a new profile. So that gave me hope because that's what I had clicked (unfortunately, it was right before I saw the cancel button over on the right). That's what I get for being in a hurry I guess.

Anyhow, after 4 days of reading support forums and tons of trial and error, I'm no closer to restoring that profile than when I first started (although I've learned a lot about what does NOT work).

Btw, both my profiles have always been set up as POP3 at Gmail, although if I ever get this current problem sorted out I'll be shopping for a different POP3 provider. But that's another story.

I know how to create a new profile with Profile Manager. And I found the Profiles folders under both Thunderbird folder as well as ThunderbirdOLD folder. Have I been on the right track so far?

In the Thunderbird/Profiles folder, I don't see a folder with the deleted profile name (except the new ones (duds) I've since created ). On the other hand, I don't see the name of the profile that I did NOT delete either, but somehow it seems to be working just fine. Maybe it's the ".default" folder or ".default-release" folder? I've only ever had two profiles and I may have created the non-deleted profile first, so did that one end up being named .default? -shrug- I have no clue.

Anyhow, in the ThunderbirdOLD/Profiles folder, I also see ".default" as well as ".default-release" folders too. But in addition, I'm seeing a ".deletedprofile" named folder. So that's where I originally thought my several dozen email folders with several thousand emails and Address Book etc are hiding. But I've copied all the above mentioned folders into the several new Profiles I've created, on a trial and error basis but so far..... no luck. All I get when I open one is the new set up screen to set up a new pop3 account.... which I can do, but that's just starting from scratch without any of my saved data. I'm running out of ideas.

Where am I going wrong?

After the latest update (and the one before) when I open an email, it opens every message in the thread as a separate tab. With a long thread this is a bit of a nightmare to delete all the tabs. I am a Thunderbird fan and contributor for more than twenty years. Please help, thank you. Clive

For lack of anything better I'm using TBird as an HTML editor.

I'm writing a rather long paper that includes many images. Backing up as I go, I use the 'Export Message As > HTML Format > Messages And Attachments' ... and it works fine and processes the images this way:

Anyway -- this is kinda hard to explain -- as long as I was 'working within TBird' everything was fine, but I ended up modifying my HTML via text editor to do a few things that were impossible to do in the graphical TBird screen (tweaking some math equations). So now my draft message needed to be updated with the new HTML. I use 'Insert > HTML' and paste in the entire contents of my paper and then Send it to myself. I get it back, open it and there's no images, just blank boxes.

But ... and this is interesting ... if I then take that message and save it again as HTML (as above) then if I view that HTML in FireFox, voila! It shows the images. So how can I take my HTML, import it to an email and then 'Edit As New Message' or whatever trick is needed to have the paper back with it's images intact? I hope that's not too confusing.

Help! I believe that repeated unsuccessful attempts to compact my overly large inbox folder have resulted in all of the available space on my hard drive being taken up by incomplete temporary MBOX files. I want to know how I can get these temporary files out of the way. Thunderbird 115.5.0, 64-bit, Windows 11.

Background: My inbox is admittedly way too large, but in the past I have compacted it regularly without problems. Recently, after deleting many messages, moving some other messages to other mail folders, and emptying the trash, I tried to compact all folders (apparently including folders for another email account), as Thunderbird suggested. That apparently failed. Then, after deleting more messages, emptying the trash, and emptying my Recycle Bin, I tried to compact just the inbox. After working for a while, Thunderbird gave me a message that compaction had failed due to lack of space on the hard drive. Indeed, the hard drive had only a couple hundred MB remaining! I cleared out a lot of files and freed up several gigabytes of storage on the hard drive, then tried again to compact the folder, only to get another failure message after Thunderbird had been working for a while. I removed still more content and gained about twice as much storage as I had had before the previous try, then tried to compact again, and got the same result after a much longer period of compacting effort by Thunderbird.

My thunderbird worked until this morning now it's authentication failure while connecting to server outlook.office365.com. I've tried the listed fixes but nothing's working.

My old iMac fried the fans during its update to Sonoma 14.6 and though I can still turn on the machine and use it, my time is limited before things get too hot and I need to shut it down.

I have the older profile saved from backups but since I needed to check one account before I had everything all set up, I configured TB on the new iMac (OS14.6.1) to be able to check a gmail account. It worked and TB downloaded everything from that account. Now I either need to manually set up all the other accounts or try using my old profile.

I am concerned because the gmail account holds a lot of old (really oulde) data and I don't want it to be overwritten by the old profile which left all the email on Gmail servers. I won't be able to retrieve it from gmail since it was all automatically deleted when TB was set up to check the mail. I have it now, but will importing the old profile overwrite what I currently have for that account?

I need to check the other accounts too, they are from my own sites but if I need to, I could set them up manually. My servers do not keep copies beyond 30 days (my settings). Is it safe to import the old profile and settings? This version of TB (128.1) is not anything like the (says it is up to date) one on my old iMac. It would save me some time to import the old profile, is it too late?

I'm seeing strange coding or gibberish in emails. Here is an example. I have at least a dozen more:

This strange behavior does not occur in the same email on Mac Mail, where it looks completely normal.

Have several email accounts working in TB. Consolidated multiple Msg. Filter files into just ONE to be placed in all accounts, used Notepad / Word naming it .dat without .txt This has worked fine before. Somewhere within the new .dat file I believe there is some sort of ERROR, and it can't be read by TB at program start. Wondering if there are any tools for checking the integrity of the filter file. TB Trouble Shooter was no help. SEE THE IMAGE HERE.

Dzień dobry, dot. 128.1.0esr (64 bity) Windows 11 pro, w folderze odebrane, wysłane widać listę wiadomości ale po wybraniu wiadomości jest czysta biała karta bez treści i załączników, po wykonaniu opcji naprawy folderu znikają wiadomość np z 2024 roku a pozostają np z 2019 roku. I just realized that my Thunderbird settings were set to never delete messages from my archive. My email was unusable for a few days as a result. I was able to change the settings under Disk Space so that my archive will delete messages once every 365 days and I also compacted my folders. I can now RECEIVE new messages again, but I still cannot SEND new messages out. I am unable to sign into my Thunderbird account as I forgot/lost my password. Could someone kindly tell me how to reset my Thunderbird password and advise me how to clear my archive....or explain why I still cannot SEND new messages?

I wish to transfer my Thunderbird accounts (i.e. I have two different email addresses in one Thunderbird installation) from my 'old' PC to my 'new' laptop.

Historically I have backed up my emails by copying the Thunderbird folder from <user>/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird and pasting it to my backup disk. This has worked well for more than 6 years. In that time, I've had to recover a couple of times by simply re-installing Thunderbird, establishing it with my main email account (ian_and_maureen@yahoo.co.uk), then replacing the newly established .../Roaming/Thunderbird folder with the archived one, thus recovering all my subfolder data in the Inbox of ian_and_maureen... plus a second email address.

I've tried to do this with the laptop, but I don't fully recover the historical data, all I get is the current Inboxes for the two accounts with no historical data. Can you advise me what I'm doing wrong? If this is the wrong way, what is the correct way? It seems essentially the same action as is described by the guide found at Moving Thunderbird Data to a New Computer | Thunderbird Help (mozilla.org)

My PC is running Windows 10 Version 22H2 (OS Build 19045.4717) with Thunderbird Version 115.13.0 (32-bit). The Laptop is Windows 11 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3958 with Thunderbird Version 115.13.0 (64-bit)

I had been receiving new emails automatically. Now I have to restart Thunderbird to receive any new emails. My Thunderbird is set to download new emails every one minute. My email service is through Earthlink. Could this problem be related to a recent Thunderbird update? Thank you for any suggestions.

After detaching an attachment from a message in my Inbox (viewing in Message Pane), Thunderbird automatically skips down to the next message. How do I keep it from doing that? Thunderbird 128 for Windows.

What I want is really very simple and should be logical. I read my emails in the Message Pane. After detaching a detachment, I want to then reply to the person who sent me the file. But Thunderbird automatically skips to the next message in the Inbox, so when I reflexively hit "Reply," I'm suddently replying to the wrong message. It's really annoying. :-) And makes no sense. I'm not "done" with a message just because I've detached a file...

I'm pretty sure I managed to fix this once before, but all my searches only turn up answers to turning off "auto-advance" when deleting a message, not detaching a file.
