zwykły FF 3.0 won't import my SeaMonkey 1.1.9 passwords

I installed FF 3.0 over an existing FF 2.0 which I only experimented with and never really used. I use SeaMonkey 1.1.9 (with MultiZilla, IE Tab, and Mnenhy extensions) as my normal browser. Now I want to migrate over to FF 3.0 and started by trying to import my SM passwords (File > Import > Netscape/Mozilla > Saved Passwords). I got the Import Complete window that said they were imported successfully but none, in fact, were imported. I really don't want to have to enter all these again so can anyone help?

Extensions installed:

FlashBlock, IE Tab

Try opening the Seamonkey Profile Folder and copying signons2.txt and key3.db into the Firefox profile folder.

I don't know of a way to merge the files for the two programs, so you'll need to overwrite Firefox's files if that's what you want to do. In Firefox's folder, then delete signons3.txt.

Note: This will delete your Firefox passwords. Only do this if your Seamonkey ones are a better list

SeaMonkey stores its passwords in a file named xxxxxx.s the format of which is not at all like FireFox's signons2.txt. I hesitate to copy over the .s file (along with key3.db) and rename it signons2.txt without confirmation that this won't totally trash FireFox.

OK. I created a temporary profile in Firefox 3.0 and tried importing the information from Seamonkey 1.1.9 (I have only 1 Seamonkey profile so that is probably why the import process did not ask which profile to import from). The cookies were transferred correctly. The passwords and bookmarks were not. (Importing solely bookmarks does, indeed, import them but not if passwords are also attempted.)

I then made sure that both Firefox and Seamonkey were shut down, copied xxxxxx.s and key3.db over from the Seamonkey profile, deleted signons3.txt from the Firefox profile (there was no signons2.txt), and started up Firefox. No passwords. I then shut down Firefox, renamed xxxxxx.s to signons2.txt and started up Firefox again. Still no passwords.

Is there any chance that I'll ever be able to import my Seamonkey passwords? I have hundreds and there is no was to even print them out so I could have them handy to hand type when prompted in Firefox.

Tada!

Based on a thread that I found on DSLReports.com, I successfully copied my Seamonkey passwords to Firefox 3.0. There were two things that I needed to do in addition to what was suggested and what I tried: I needed to create at least one (throw away) password in Firefox and I needed to rename the Seamonkey password file to signons3.txt — not signons2.txt.

This may be total coincidence (I don't know what the difference is between the three signons.txt files), but it worked and that's really all I wanted.

The steps in detail that worked for me.

1) Stop Seamonkey.
2) Start Firefox.
3) Go to a site that requires a password.
4) Fill in the info and proceed (login/submit/etc.).
5) When prompted by Firefox, click "Remember".
6) Stop Firefox.
7) Locate the Firefox profile folder.
8) For any of the following files, move them somewhere else and delete them from the profile folder (if something goes wrong, you can always move them back):
key3.db
signons.txt
signons2.txt
signons3.txt
9) Locate the Seamonkey profile folder.
10) Copy the following files to the Firefox profile folder:
key3.db
xxxxxxx.s
11) In the Firefox profile folder, rename xxxxxxx.s to signons3.txt. Note that this is signons3.txt, not signons2.txt.
12) Start Firefox.
13) Go to a site that requires a password (not the same site as in step 3).
14) Verify that Firefox autofills the password.

As Bo mentioned earlier, this will overwrite any existing Firefox passwords.

You can export your existing passwords with this extension and merge them afterward.
Password Exporter : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2848

And how does the Password Exported help me get my SEAMONKEY passwords into FIREFOX? Its web site says that it is works with Firefox 2 & 3, Thunderbird 2, Flock, and Songbird.

The question is moot anyway as I've already succeeded in getting them transferred.

My thanks to DS for finding how to do this. I had the same problem with SeaMonkey 1.11. Used Password Exporter to save the few passwords Firefox 3 had imported (probably from Firefox 2) and then add them to those imported as described above. Some of the latter don't work but that's better than nothing.
