Just letting you guys know.
I don't know.
I'm having exactly the same problem on 32bit. Glad its not just an isolated case.
Not work here either!
doesn't work for me either...
Here's a solution from the Ubuntu message boards http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=962904 wor5ked fine for me.....
Yes, I've had this issue, and it can be fixed easily enough. It is a useragent issue: In the firefox address bar, enter in: Code:
about:config
Click the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button. Navigate to general.useragent.vendor and change it's value from Ubuntu to Firefox. Quit firefox, then try hotmail.
Thank you for posting the fix. Works a charm.
"Click the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button. Navigate to general.useragent.vendor and change it's value from Ubuntu to Firefox. Quit firefox, then try hotmail. "
This only works if you stay in Firefox. Once you quit Firefox the user agent reverts back to Ubuntu. Also when using this sequence to access the Hotmail editor, you only get a 20 column screen.
i found an answer that's a bit more permanent here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=961051
it involves creating a new file called user.js in yr mozilla profile folder. you'll need to "view hidden files and folders" in yr file explorer if you're not gonna use the command line.
but it does work. sliiiightly intermittendly, but we can now write messages...
Here is a good solution!

Thanks G!
The link above seems to work very well but how do you make FF stay in your new set up? It goes back to default every time you start up FF?
Thanks Ed Pybus,
That worked for me. Very much appreciated.
Onother solution is in the link of this blog:
http://despuesdegoogle.com/2008/11/07/hotmail-en-firefox-con-ubuntu/
is in spanish and doesn't have many instructions, Translating . . .
1.about:config . 2. general.useragent.vendor and it will see Ubuntu 3. Right Clic , Modif y, and erase Ubuntu.
Working in 8.10 and 8.04
It's kind of unfair, but maybe Mozila team should do something about this selfish modification in Microsoft live mail.
My reference "sellfish" is and was mentioned to Microsoft, not to Mozila Team. I'm so sorry if my last post was misunderstood
I found for me a solution to prevent Firefox reverting back to Ubuntu in general.useragent.vendor. Open as root (sudo nautilus) the text file usr/lib/firefox-3.0.3/defaults/preferences/ubuntu-useragent.js and change in the line:
pref ("general.useragent.vendor", "Ubuntu"); to pref ("general.useragent.vendor", "Firefox");
close and save text file
worked fine for me
It worked for me on fedora 9 Sulphur.
thanks guys that helped me a lot
Open as root (sudo nautilus) the text file usr/lib/firefox-3.0.3/defaults/preferences/ubuntu-useragent.js and change in the line:
Thanks Fredi, worked beautifully, and permanently.
Ubuntu Just updated Firefox to 3.04 and I was thinking "Good, they also fixed this problem" But NO! they fouled up the relationship with Hotmail again. It reverted back to the Vender = Ubuntu and the Hotmail editor no longer works. I guess I'll just have to change it back like up above?
In my computer . . . . xx@xx-x:~$ find /usr/lib -name "ubuntu-useragent.js" /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.4/defaults/preferences/ubuntu-useragent.js
xx@xx-x:~$ sudo gedit /usr/lib/firefox=3.0.4/defaults/preferences/ubuntu-useragent.js sudo password for xx:
In the editor, change the Vendor from Ubuntu to Firefox and save. Be sure to get completely out of Firefox including any minimized tabs and restart Firefox.
