locked Remove AOL url auto search

I recently installed AIM (and then uninstalled it, when I realized my account had lapsed), and now whenever I type a work into the url it uses AOL to search. I want to reset the original settings and remove this aol search. I have: removed the AIM and AOL software from my pc, removed the AOL search engine from the search bar, removed the AIM add-on, returning the default toolbar settings, uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. I don't know how to put back the original setting and get rid of this AOL search.

Same thing happened to me.
Here's how you can fix it.

1. open firefox, type in "about:config" in the keyword box.
2. search for "keyword.url"
3. right click on the URL and select "modify"
4. copy and paste one of google's three ways of searching:

http://www.google.com/search?btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=
Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" (default pre-Firefox 2.0)

http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=
Google "Browse by Name" (Automatically takes you to sites with a clear match, else performs a Google search) (default in Firefox 2)

http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=
Google Search (Google search results page)

You are a golden god! that was driving me nuts.... i hate it a) when the damn programs assume you want to change everything and join the (AOL)sheep and b) the search engine is sucky. I guess this thread then doubles as the "I hate AOL pool".
