Firefox 3 rc 2, as well as other versions, crash everytime I visit metacritic.com. Here is an exact link that will reproduce the crash: http://www.metacritic.com/video/titles/madmoney
It looks like the browser is trying to open a media window to view a movie trailer and this is making it crash
none
For what its worth, I visited - no problem - trailer didn't start till I clicked on it - then it played. 3RC2
Worked for me too. See Firefox crashes to troubleshoot.
Good luck!
I researched this a little more and found out it is a problem caused by the VLC media plugin. Apparently there is some sort of conflict with windows media player. Deleting npvlc.dll solves this issue. Developers may want to look into having this plugin removed or disabled by default for new users that will not bother to look into this issue.
It's mentioned on the crashes page, so we're aware of it. FF3 has means of disabling problematic plugins, but I don't know if it's ready to use yet.
Thanks for reporting back!
FF3 was crashing constantly for me on Vista...after spending an hour or so online looking for answers I decided to take matters into my own hands. Here's how I went from crashing CONSTANTLY (every 5 minutes) to NOT AT ALL:
uninstalled original firefox install reinstalled clearing out ALL my personal profile info during the install I imported all my IE bookmarks, homepage, etc. opened FF3 (still not my default browser!) browsed to "about:config" double-clicked on "plugin.default_plugin_disabled" (this value was set to true - I changed it to false by doing this)
And this fixed all my problems. Works like a champ now (so far anyway).
Not sure if this will help anyone else, but it certainly helped me out!

I cant even open the browser.
After normal installation, and starting firefox, I get the Mozilla Crash Reporter window. Any suggestions?
Running: Vista Home Premium, 2Gig mem
Manny, could you please start a new thread for your problem?
Firefox has been crashing regularly for me since I updated to Release 3 - I'm on Windows XP Professional. I have all Addons disabled, yet it still crashes. The Crash Reporter does not come up - does it need to be explicitly enabled?
I have the same poblem. Firefox 3 crashes EVERY 5 MINUTES, regardless of what site I'm on. It's INFURIATING and I don't know how to fix it. I don't even get the crash reporter, Windows just says it will look for a solution but then just closes anyway. HELP?!
Same experience for me. Firefox 3 crashes CONSTANTLY. I am running it on Win XP SP3. I've searched the site and their doesn't seem to be solution proposed other than, disable all your addons. And this doesn't seem to work and addons are also why we love firefox so much.
Is this issue being close to fixed? I understand that this is a community supported development, but F3 should clearly not be GA yet.
Firefox has been crashing regularly for me since I updated to Release 3 - I'm on Windows Vista Business. Is their any solution for this?
I agree with this. Found 2 pages that my FF3 crashed 100% if the time on.
1. While logging into www.heartinternet.com 2. When confirming payment on www.pizzahut.co.uk
Very wierd
On different PC's (XP Prof SP3) Firefox is very often crashing (less then 5 minutes).
I have the exact same problem as this initial poster, Kevin. In good faith I followed the links on this website and ran the standard diagnostics. I have installed the latest version of Windows Media Player. I cannot find the "npvlc.dll " file mentioned earlier in the thread. I have spent hours googling and checking forums for solutions. Nothing. But every time I visit metacritic: freeze. As liberating as it may be to see films without knowledge of their critical reception, I would like this to end...
To summarize, I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, run it in safe mode, changed the compatibility, repaired the windows media player plugin, uninstalled the windows media player plugin, downloaded updates for related plugins, and still am hanging every time.
Crashes for me about every 5 minutes... Even after a format and re-install of XP Pro it still crashes about every 5 min... Only thing running in the back ground is Free AVG 8.
as soon as i open a few tabs it crashes...wanna go back to the older version so bad, this is frustrating...had higher expectations than this!
I have just about given up, and I am ready to start using IE. I do not want to use IE but f3 keeps crashing on me, I am on Windows XP SP3. has any one had any luck in resolving the constant crashes?
I'm on the same boat and have all but given-up on FF3. I have a sneaky suspicion V. 3.01 will be released sooner then later. It's safe to assume there are plenty of bugs in FF3.0. At the meantime, I've re-installed FF2 and it's working great!
Download V. 2 here... http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
