As I was rebooting, I got stuck because it said DummyWindowless was not responding. I searched for it on my computer after reboot & couldn't find it. Can't find much online except vague connections to firefox. Is this something from firefox and is it supposed to be there? What's it's purpose? Also, why wouldn't it show up when I did a file search if it's supposed to be there? Just sounds suspicious to me so if anyone has any information on DummyWindowless, I would really like to know what it is & it's purpose. Thank You!!

I don't think it's related to Firefox. A couple of Google hits point to it being related to Opera.

Seems firefox related to me.

It doesn't show up in a search of the Mozilla source code...

Just to make sure...

Good luck!

I had the same message come out on safari n thought if i uninstalled n then reinstalled it ,it would be ok but its still coming up this is the messages i get:

Safari.exe- Corrupt file

and then after i go to another pg

What is Dummywindowless?:Safari.exe- Corrupt file

Same problem with me using both Firefox and Safari, but mine says something about a memory limit.

I got it using chrome.

Its Opera I didnt use it for a while and when I did this came up

Did any of you watch a FOX episode of Terminator -Sarah Connor, etc.. in full screen??

This might be it. A stuck process that hangs open after firefox is closed for some reason?!?

Everyone is using their browser right before, right?

Just a thought. I was watching 24 online (streaming...full screen at fox dot com) right before and then wanted to shut down the PC. That's when I got the same message....

I got this message after a clean install, after testing internet on firefox and installing AVG8 i shutdown and got this message, just went to google page Yahoo and ninemsn.

Its part of Google Chrome. I used a program called cheat engine to look at the memory bank of that program and it links to chrome.exe

Is anyone actually paying any attention and reading the posts before they post? It's Firefox. It's Opera. It's Chrome, it's watching a movie in full screen. Hello? Anyone thinking out there? It's quite obviously none of these things, no one could be using all this crap.

i use opera AND chrome AND firefox AND I ALSO DO watch movies and tv shows in fullscreen on my computer AND
I just got this 'Dummywindowless' message upon shutdown, for the first time, ever.
It freaked me out

I used to use Chrome, I never got this problem until I downloaded Chrome, and I uninstalled it. I only get it on the internet sometimes. Oh yeah I use Opera now. Anybody know why?

Obviously it is a program independent of any browser, and runs in support.

I personally believe it to be viral in nature. I'd clean the machine personally.

i use only firefox and IE ...today when i closed my ever lagging firefox (too many add-ons lol), i got this dummywindowless thingie ..i'm assuming it was in regard to a pop-under that was un-noticed by me before i shut down firefox to lessen the lag. hate it when that happens because uopn opening firefox again, it opens to the pop-under instead of the tabs i'd been using. the pop-under was blank that's why i assume it was windowless.

and i totally agree with pooter above ...

and if you dont agree with pooter you gotta love his name

I would agree that it isn't specifically related to Firefox, Opera, Chrome (etc.), but it seems from most of these posts to only occur when browsing the web, and from a couple that it may have something to do with a memory limit. Myself, I got it just now. I was opening a page that had two flash objects in it, and they were both glitching, and causing Firefox to act weird, so I tried to alt+tab out of Firefox, at which point I noticed the DummyWindowless thing on the alt-tab menu. However, after a few seconds it disappeared--AND the flash objects started working normally. It should also be noted that I currently have 266 Firefox tabs open in addition to ten Microsoft Word documents and four Windows Journal notes (and the Task Manager). I get the feeling that this is not at all viral in nature, but rather is some sort of bug handler or whatever somesuch process that is somehow involved with fixing things when a memory whore like me is browsing the internet.
If this only occurs once, I'd honestly say don't think anything of it! If it happens regularly, try virus-scanning your computer anyways, but keep in mind that it could also be due to a corrupted process or just due to the fact that you have too much crap on/running on your computer.

I got this after changing my DEP setting and starting a reboot. I did not have any browser open but I had just downloaded Yahoo IM using Firefox and launched the install several times. That's when I hit the DEP setting limits and changed them. Then started the reboot.

I haven't installed anything else new for weeks.

during shutting down the PC stopped and this "Dummy Windowless" announcement appeared. After waiting some seconds I could continue.

I used Firefox before, but I also often have a memory limit.

my friend have dummywindowless suddenly what should he do?
