locked Gmail crashes Firefox 3

Hello,

Firefox 3 has been randomly crashing whenever I am at Gmail. It crashes most frequently when closing the gmail tab. I ruled out the fact that an extension is causing the problem, for it crashes too in safe mode.

Here is some info on the crash:

Have you tried using a fresh profile and seeing if the problem stil occurs? (See Managing profiles). I use GMail in Firefox 3 on both Windows and Mac and haven't run into any issues so far.

Yes, I tried with a new profile and it still crashes.

Check out Firefox crashes for some suggestions.

You can try Troubleshooting plugins - disable all of them from Tools > Add-ons > Plugins to see if that makes a difference.

I've been having the same problem. Except it happens when I open Gmail every so often. I've also disabled all my plugins and updated to Windows Vista-64 service pack 1 (suspecting it has something to do with javascript). Not sure what else to do now. Suggestions?

I have the same problems with GMail, it crashes on GMail a lot. I run FF3 + Vista x64, no addons on FF.

I have been having the same issue since I download FF3 on release day. It looks like the common denominator here is Vista x64 since that's the OS I am using as well, with no plugins or extensions installed or running.

To replicate mine, it usually happens when I have Gmail open, and either open a new tab and begin typing a URL in the address bar. It's not always repeatable and pretty sporadic, but it happens. Also, if I leave the Gmail page open by itself for an extended period, it has also crashed. I've tried disabling chat in gmail hoping it was a Javascript problem, but it hasn't helped.

Also, there has been at least two times when Gmail wasn't even opened, and the browser has crashed. I can't remember what was opened, but I will document and report it here next time it happens.

Hope my info helps. Can the original poster post his/her operating system just to verify my hunch about Vista x64? (possibly SP1?)

My specs:
OS: Vista x64 SP1
CPU: Intel Xeon E3110 (3.0ghz)
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB(2 x 2GB) DDR2 SDRAM 1066
MOBO: EVGA NVIDIA nForce 780i
GPU: EVGA GeForce 9600GT 512MB (default @ 700mhz core)
PS: ANTEC Quattro TPQ-1000

I also have this problem, but only in Ubuntu 8.04. I have had it sense the betas, and now in the release.

I run FF 3 on Windows Xp Home, but it works fine.

Same problem with gmail (plus randomly with sites where flash video players are embedded). XP with latest patches...

it is not just with gamail, FF3 also crashes on my PC when IE is open. I have all add ons disabled.

Same here...

Vista x64 ultimate + firefox 3 + gmail = crashes.

I disabled (deleted) all plugins, and random crashes occur when reading my mail, or leaving it open for a while. As said before mostly when you try to open a new tab, or close one...

I've get the same problem. Vista x64 Ultimate + firefox 3 + gmail and it's crashign... Mostly more than one tabs opened.

I get crashes opening and closing the gmail tab in FF3 in Vista Ultimate (32bit). FF3 has never crashed once on my XP work machine.
It used to be more rampant in the beta builds, but it still happens around once a day.
