I have a grayed out back button, refresh, forward, and stop button. I did the restore defaults as Bo described on someone else thread (by going to customize and restore default settings) and now I also have a grayed out file, edit, view, history, bookmarks, tools, and help. The only items I can use now is the home icon, the web address icon, and the google search.
I have the latest firefox updates with windows xp version. One other thing to note is that I have 2 tabs open with spinning circles as if it were loading the pages still. The pages are already loaded though.

I am using no extensions.

Same problem here:

Windows XP

All Bookmarks gone!!!!
Back , Forward , Refresh , Stop buttons grayed out!!
Address bar doesn't show the address of any site!!
Address bar doesn't show star icon to bookmark any site!!
Spinning circles as if it were loading the pages still but the pages are already loaded though !!

I am very fed up by this bug.I have been using firefox since it's first version and never been so annoyed than now.Now i have lost all my bookmarks!!!?.Lots of users seem to be having the same problem. But there seems to be no satisfactory solution anywhere. Can anybody help or i might be forced to shift to some other browser:(

Not to worry - your bookmarks should still be there, just not accessible due to the grey-out issue. Are either of you also running Norton 360? The symptoms you're experiencing are almost identical to those of a known Norton issue, but could also be due to a different problem. If you're not running Norton 360, take a look at these links & see if they help --

I am using Norton 360. My wife actually is using an older firefox because she had the same issues.

My firefox is now working great. What I did was opened as follows. 1- I opened norton 360. 2-Click on manage firewall. 3-Click on the tab program rules. 4- Scroll to mozilla firefox and click allow (mine read custom). 5- Exit out of norton, and reboot computer for it will not work for you until you reboot. 6- Start firefox, and it should work.

i have the same problem and im not useing norton 360
