solved ff 3.0 can't use gmail or google calendar

Firefox version: 3.0 Operating system: Windows XP

I installed ff 3.0 hours ago (June 19 2008). Gmail standard view merely shows the "loading my-address at google.com" message (but it's no longer loading — this is just static text) plus a link to the "HTML only" view, which works OK. Google Calendar says "Sorry, Google Calendar does not support your browser yet." in large friendly but red letters.

The following fixes mentioned in similar queries on this forum DO NOT WORK for me:
- clearing the cache
- clearing all cookies from google sites — and, afterwards, clearing
all cookies from everywhere.
- exiting and restarting ff after either or both of the above.

I'd like to reinstall the previous version of firefox but can't find any links to a download.

Extensions installed:

Adblock plus 0.7.5.5
Canadian English Dictionary 1.1.0
NoScript 1.6.9.3

Try this:

  1. Enter about:config in the Location bar
  2. Type general.useragent in the "Filter"
  3. Right-click each of the general.useragent preferences and choose "Reset" from the context menu.

You can try making a new Firefox profile (see Managing profiles). If that works, you can get your bookmarks and passwords into the new profile by following the instructions in the Recovering important data from an old profile article.

If you really want to go back to FF2, here's Quarantine's checklist for rolling back:

  1. See Backing up your information - Always a good idea to back up your user information first.
  2. Download the latest version of Firefox 2 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
  3. Uninstall Firefox, if you are using the Firefox 3 uninstaller when asked say no to "Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations"
  4. Make sure that there are no files left in the installation folder, default location C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
  5. Go to your profile folder.

Firefox 3 would have converted your profile to the Firefox 3 format by creating some new files. You should delete these files along with some others to avoid having problems either now or when you decide to update to Firefox 3 at a later date.

  1. Delete the following files:
    • content-prefs.sqlite
    • places.sqlite
    • downloads.sqlite
    • cookies.sqlite
    • permissions.sqlite
    • formhistory.sqlite
    • signons3.txt (if the profile folder does not contain a file called signons2.txt you can also remove key3.db)
    • urlcalssifier3.txt
    • extensions.cache
    • extensions.rdf
    • extensions.ini
    • localstore.rdf
  2. Install Firefox 2.

Good luck!

You may have a problem with one of your addons causing problems as I have no problems accessing GMail or Google Calendar with FF3.0.

I'm running Adblock Plus 0.7.5.5, Colorful Tabs 3.1 and Flashblock 1.5.6.

My suspicion is the NoScript extension. Can you uninstall or disable that and see if you can access GMail and Google calendar???

I'm not sure if this counts as 'solved', but:

Uninstalling Adblock Plus didn't help.
Creating a new profile worked; at one point the problem with Gmail recurred but reloading the page fixed things that time, unlike other times.

I'll save the going-back-to-ff2 advice in case I have further problems.

It looks like Adblock Plus causes *some* problems, since when I installed it in the new profile Gmail stopped working (though Google Calendar was OK this time), and when I uninstalled it Gmail worked again. I have no idea why uninstalling it from the old profile didn't work. I don't particularly want to do without Adblock Plus but at least I can put off going back to FF2 for a day or two.

I am having the same problem. How do I uninstall adblock plus? thanks,.

Bo

Uninstalling add-ons.

This thread is dalamb's, so please post a new one if you are having a problem so we quit sending dalamb spam.

It seems the same problem at me. Plus some extra, google maps does not work neither.
I have already tried to disable all extensions. (very much of them)
Both working fine on a fresh portable version.

I bet it can be some about:config modifications previously done in 2.x version of ff.
I am going to try to find these settings (really much I did at different times) and can be time consuming to find the problematic one.

If you find some settings conflicts with these webapps please post it.

Just another tipp. You can try the http://mail.google.com/mail?nocheckbrowser link.
(Did not worked to me.)

Hi,

I had the same problem with being unable to load Gmail in standard view.

I have Adblock Plus installed and with some tinkering I have solved the problem for me.

My standard installation of Adblock Plus (probably more the filter list) contained an entry for Google ads. It appeared in the top of my list. Once I had removed this entry, Gmail standard view loaded without issue. I did not have to restart the browser.

Hope this helps anybody else in this situation.
