request for more information My passwords were erased after 3.0.3, Still can't save new ones

My passwords disappeared and my browser settings were reset after the 3.0.3 upgrade back in late September. My bookmarks, however, remained intact. I thought this problem would be fixed with the 3.0.4 upgrade, so I waited patiently, but I am still unable to save new passwords.

in November I briefly downgraded to a pre 3.0 version of Firefox and my passwords were still intact there. After I upgraded again, however, they were gone once again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Gmail Manager, Adblock, Google Gears, Flashgot

If you see passwords in the Password Manager (Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords") then you can first export your current passwords:
Password Exporter: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2848
Check that the exported (xml) file has all the names and passwords.

If you still have the file signons2.txt from Firefox 2 then you can try to copy signons2.txt to signons3.txt to see if that works.

If that didn't work or didn't apply then remove key3.db and all signons#.txt files (signons2.txt, signons3.txt) in the profile folder to start with fresh files.

The file key3.db stores the encryption key for the encrypted names and passwords that are stored in signons#.txt.
You need to set a new Master Password after renaming or deleting key3.db and all currently saved passwords are lost.

If you have saved the passwords with the Password Exporter extension then can re-import the passwords with the Password Exporter extension.
