Hi everybody,
I've been working with Firefox for quite some time now, and I'm mostly satisfied with it. I'm running it on OpenSuSE with the NetworkManager connection management subsystem, and I have a private webserver running a personal wiki and some other web apps that I found handy for personal use. My problem is that Firefox automatically detects whether there's a network connection and, if there's not one, it immediately switches to "offline" mode. So every single time I start my browser and try to view my wiki without a network connection (remember, the wiki is physically located on this machine, not elsewhere) I get that irritating little message asking me to disable offline mode. How do I stop Firefox from automatically going into offline mode? I assume there's some setting in the browser itself; if not, there really, REALLY needs to be one.

Extensions installed:

BBComposer, Beagle indexer, Deepest Sender, DOM Inspector, Download Manager tweak, DownThemAll!, GMail Skins, Text Formatting Toolbar, Weekedit, Wordpress Sidebar, Yoono.

Plugins installed:

Does this extension help any?

Thanks for the tip. It doesn't stop Firefox from switching to offline mode automatically, but it shortens the task of switching back on by a mouse click. I think I need to contact the developers and get them to add an option to the configuration window to disable that automatic switching.

I'm also having this offline curse.

It's when I connect using a Kyocera 650 wireless card. System also is Open Suse 10.3

It's very irritating. Wish I could stop it.

Firefox behaves normally when using the Kyocera card with PC Linux.

This is a really annoying behaviour!

And the extention mentioned above does not work for FF3.

For my situation it would make most sense if FF did not behave as if in offline mode for any URL on localhost or loopback adress. Even as a hidden feature in about:config this would be nice. Does it already exist? If not, where can I make a feature request?

I also have this problem - and it is annoying. I use a laptop under SuSE 10.3 and use suspend to disk. Everytime I start up I need to regain an IP address with wifi-radar, and then of course have to switch firefox back to online mode.
It would be great if there was an option to force firefox to stay in online mode.

I'm having this problem too. I run a wiki and develop on localhost but sometimes I'm offline... it's quite annoying. Although that extension, were it updated, would at least save me a click.

cheers

YOu can fix it by following the instructions found here:

You can workaround the bug by utilizing the Disable Offline Mode Firefox extension addon...

this is very irritating, i use the network manager and the adsl modem manager on autostart and every single time, even though i do have a connection to the internet i have to switch from off-line mode

go to about:config, find browser.offline-apps.notify and set it to false

disabling automatic network detection in FF3/IW3

This is also relevant when using the www offline explorer "wwwoffle" which lets the browser view all pages which have been cached once it was online!

I can very much recommend using this, e.g. on your Notebook or mobile device, which is not always online.

thanks Bogdan.........that worked like a charm

same here, im using wifi, offline curse is always appearing especiallt when you close it and opent it again, read almost thread and tried their suggestions but to no avail...before im using the later version prioir to this 3.0 and there was no issue on this.

hope firefox admin will do something about it swiftly!

I'm sick and tired of having to manually uncheck Work Offline every time I want to connect to http://localhost/ on a stand-alone computer.

So sick and tired that I made an extension that forces Firefox to be in online mode:

Andrew Pennebaker, so far your extension is working good for me.

Andrew Pennebaker, thanks! It worked!

Great Andrew.
I'm currently working in Nigeria and the connection is regularly going off; this fault of firefox meant I kept losing downloads. Hopefully now, with your update, that will no longer be a problem.
Thanks
