Issue

I have another kind of problem with Firefox

Description

I installed an update to a program (MyHeritage Family Tree Builder) and it basically hijacked Firefox. Without prompting, my homepage was changed, a taskbar was added, my default search engine was changed and the MyHeritage add-on was installed and activated. Moreover, this happened in two separate Firefox profiles under the same login on this machine. I was able to eliminate all the changes but I don't want this to happen again.

This happened

Just once or twice

MyHeritage Family Tree Builder was updated

Extensions installed

Adblock Plus, AutoPager

Firefox version

3.5.5

Operating system

Windows Vista

User Agent

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091102 Firefox/3.5.5 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

Actually, the system this occurred on is a WinXP SP3 box. I'm not absolutely certain what version I was running when this happened. It was right around October 30, 2009 and my browser updates were current at that time.

Check your setting on Tools > Options > Security, "Warn me when sites try to install add-ons"; tick that item if not ticked. Also on that same item, click Exceptions and clear any sites that are listed there for which you do want future warnings.
