Issue

I have another kind of problem with Firefox

Description

I just wonder, how come every time Firefox has a new update, it always ask users to update their Flash Player also? I usually ignore that because I do not think Flash Player has so many updates as Firefox. But just wonder why. Anyone has any idea?

Thank you for the information about the Adobe Download Manager. Yes, I did use that to update my Flash and after following your instructions (saving the file in my HD instead of using the Adobe Download Manager), I was able to update my Flash plug-in. Now all of my plug-ins are up-to-date.

So if anyone else is reading this thread, do not use the Adobe Download Manager to update your Flash, follow TXGuy instructions and you'll be fine.

I love this forum as you can really fix a lot of problems with FF. The only thing I have to (and have been) complaint about is the Search option on the top of the forum, which do not give you all the threads regarding your search.

Thank you again, TXGuy, for your help.

Your Flash Player (aka Shockwave Flash) and Java are out-of-date and maybe your Shockwave for Director (Shockwave Player). An update to Shockwave for Director (Shockwave Player) was just released a couple of days ago. Maybe that is why you are getting the message.

Check your plug-ins here:

I got the same answer from another thread and tried to update it, but came back the same version. And it does not happen only this time, it happens to when I update to 3.5.2, 3.5.3, 3.5.4 and now 3.5.5. Every update ask me the same question. When I updated to 3.5.3 I have already installed Flash Player 10 and I am able to play any videos on any websites. I do not want to play around with the updates if Flash is working fine for me since there has been problems for many users with Flash Player and Shockwave lately.

Thank you for the link. I used that link and tried to update the Shockwave Flash plug-in three different times. Two of those times it said Installation is complete and successful and the last one closed my FF. I open the link and check again and still say my Shockwave Flash is out-of-date. That's why I don't want to fool around with the Flash updates. And it seems everytime FF has an update, Flash has one too! Do they work together or what!

You are 10 revisions behind on Adobe Flash (Shockwave Player). Most of those updates are for security related issues. Current version 10.32.18, you have 10.22.

You are 12 revisions behind on Java. Mostly security updates. Current version 1.6.0.17, you have 1.6.0.5.

As I said, Shockwave for Director (Shockwave Player) was just updated for security related issues. Current version 11.5.2.602.

Your choice on whether you want to update or continue to face possible security issues when using those plug-ins. You will continue to get the update notices from Firefox until you update.

You probably only got the Adobe Download Manager. Follow the instructions below for both Adobe Reader and Adobe Flash.

Use Firefox to download the Adobe (Shockwave) Flash file. The Adobe Flash file must be saved to your hard drive. You then exit Firefox (File/Exit), check to see that Firefox is completely closed (Ctrl+Alt+Del, choose Task Manager, click Processes tab, if Firefox is on the list, right-click "firefox" and choose End process, close the Task Manager window), then click the file you downloaded for Adobe Flash and allow it to install before restarting Firefox. See the attached screenshots for additional information.

Same instructions for Adobe Reader

Adobe Shockwave for Director. I usually uninstall first (Windows Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs) uninstall Abobe Shockwave Player, then re-boot even if not prompted to do so in order to insure a complete uninstall, the download and install the new Shockwave for Director:

Java update: Windows Start > Settings > Control Panel > Java, Java control panel will open, click Update tab, click Update Now. Do this with Firefox closed.

You're welcome.
