Issue

Firefox is having problems with certain web sites

Description

When I connect to the WorldCat library site, I get a yellow bar at the top of the page saying that my browser is not enabled for Java Script, and thesearch feature on the site don't work. They do, however, work perfectly with Internet Explorer (which I hoping I won't have to go back to). This problem occurred before I installed add-ons Java Quick Starter 1.0 and
YesScript 1.7. Any help fixing this would be much appreciated.

try disabling YesScript 1.7, and try loading the site again.

It's been disabled for quite some time, but as I said in my message, I had the problem before I installed the two add-ons.

Is Java and JavaScript turned on Tools > Options > Content.

Any other add-ons? NoScript will block Java/JavaScript even if they are enabled in Tools > Options > Content.

Yes, they're both turned on, and I have no other add-ons.

Try checking what Tools > Options > Content, like what TXGuy said. It is possible that the Add-on is enabled but the option "enable javascript" is unchecked.

Update Java
Your version is out of date. Use the Manual Update method under the Updates heading; it is very easy. Close Firefox before starting the update.

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using+the+Java+plugin+with+Firefox#Updates

When the update is complete
Go to the Java Control Panel (Windows Start > Settings > Control Panel > Java), click the Advanced tab and be sure that the same items are checked as in the attachment; then click Apply, click OK and the panel will close.

Now start Firefox and go to a page where you have experienced the problem.

Please report back and let me know your findings.

My problem is similar. I suddenly have problems with both safari and firefox on one computer (vista home prem 64 bit), and just firefox on the other one (XP Pro 32 bit). The problem shows up on thepiratebay.org. "View source" seems to indicate that script is generating the page. I have checked that my browser has java and js active, and that I don't have any weird extensions or addons. I've re-installed everything I can think of, including the browsers, java, etc. Gotten rid of all add ons too, and tested various appearance settings in the browsers and the O/S. Most sites seem to work okay in Firefox, Chrome, Safari. Certain ones appear not to work in other browsers besides I.E. http://thepiratebay.org site doesn't display properly for me now except in Internet explorer, on the Vista, and on I.E. and Safari (not on chrome!) on XP - which is odd. I re-installed Open Office also. The one thing I didn't know how to do is re-install a bunch of NET stuff - in my experience uninstalling this has causes more corruption than it has solved - is it connected? Does anyone have any answers?
