solution proposed remember history option won't stay chosen, firefox won't remember history

Issue

I have a problem with my bookmarks, cookies, history or settings

Description

As of the 2nd, Firefox won't remember any new history. The use custom settings option sets itself, no matter how I set the history page. I updated Firefox last week, but this behavior started only yesterday.

Extensions installed

adblock plus, deskcut, ieview (all most recent updates)

Firefox version

3.5.3

Operating system

Windows XP

User Agent

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090729 Firefox/3.5.3

Check that you do not start Firefox in Private Browsing mode (Tools > Stop Private Browsing is grayed)
Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
Un-check: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"
You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"

I have the same problem.
The solution suggested does not work in my case.

I've got the same issue and private browsing is not enabled. I set the browser privacy settings to remember history and click OK, close re open and it's back to custom.

Any ideas?

I'm getting this same thing. This is driving me nuts, and preventing me from using Google Apps calendar.
