Issue

Firefox is crashing or closing unexpectedly

Description

Problem first started when Firefox 3.5.3 indicated that it was installing some new updates. It then crashes with error msg "The procedure entry point js_SaveRegExpStatics could not be located in the dynamic link library js3250.dll", even after a clean re-install with 3.5.4 with all previous profiles deleted. OS is Windows Vista with Service Pack 2.

Extensions installed

use defaults in re-installing with 3.5.4 - cannot start up Firefox to get extensions info

same problem! please help

I just got the same problem. I tried the following and was able to restart Firefox.

In C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox, you will find two instances of js3250.dll (the other one is named js3250.dll.moz-backup or something like that) . Rename js3250.dll to whatever you want, then rename the backup file one to js3250.dll.

Restart Firefox...

Edited in Message from the Mozilla Support Administrator

PLEASE do NOT do this. You should delete the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder and reinstall Firefox from http://www.getfirefox.com. This solution doesn't give you all the security fixes of 3.5.4 and puts you at significant risk.

Why you shouldn't follow this advice

leamael's solution worked for me!

Worked perfectly for me too. Thx so much...

you are a legend leamael
:-)

I had the same thing happen to me...

Anybody know why this happened?

It did not work right away after replacing the .dll file
I made a copy of the backup and renamed it with the date before simply replacing the file name...

firefox 3.5.4 downloaded after restarting the computer 4 times...

It only happened on my XP computer...
Hate to say it, but thank god I had Vista on the other

leamael, I had the same problem and your solution worked for me to. Thanks

leamael = genious!!!

So.. problem can be fixed...

Why did it happen in the first place? Do programmers no longer test updates before releasing them?

Why is it that firefox used to be the best browser out there with little no problems.

Now they are releasing updates that crash the program.

Not to mention the fact I can no longer have more than 2 tabs open due to its memory usage.
Now, I have 4GB ram, it make NO difference to firefox, after the 3rd or 4th tab, I can barely move around firefox.

My speech is simple: Mozilla need to go back and do some re-thinking about their browser. Or they are going to continue along this downward spiral and i will have to make a permanent switch to Google Chrome.

leamael it's the same word if you read it backwards
even at your name you're a genius.
wonder where you learn this stuff!

Firefox programmers wants us to switch to Google Chrome

@Drake

I'd say you have something else causing you problems. I have a an old computer that I built back in 2002 running XP and only 1GB of RAM with an Athlon XP 1800+ processor. It's pretty old by computer standards and at any given time I usually have between 10 and 15 tabs open at once and Firefox will be using between 150MB and 200MB.

If you've got 4GB of RAM and FF is running slow with only 3 or 4 tabs I'd say you got something else contributing to the problem.

On a side note: renaming the file fixed the problem for me too.

Leameal is a legend. Thank for saving me heaps of time.

thanks a lot
really u r a legend I wonder how did u discover this solution
thanks anyway
I have another question: Is there a way to retrieve favorates, cookies and addons and all the settings for firefox if I uninstall it and then install it again
any help please send it to my email: mohammad_marjan at hotmail.com
with all my thanks

Same shit here but after changing the DLL's around it would fire up but the upgrade to 3.5.4 did however not go through.

Same problem here after installing update

Hahahaha.

Same here, thanks for the fix.

solution worked for me as well.
