Issue

I have another kind of problem with Firefox

Description

Recently I found I couldn't use the "print" or "print all" links in gmail to print out a message. The little pointing hand appears when I roll over the link, but when I click on it, nothing happens. This still happens in Safe Mode and after disabling all add-ons. It doesn't happen if I open mail in IE. I am using Google Apps through my employer.

As a Gmail user, you should bookmark the Gmail help site.

Since it happens in Firefox, but not in IE, I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that it was an issue with Firefox and not with Gmail. Also, I couldn't find this problem addressed anywhere in Gmail help, either.

On the page in that link, it says:

Printing messages
Print

To print one message:

1. Open the message you want to print.
2. Click the down arrow next to Reply, at the top-right of the message.
3. Select Print.

To print an entire conversation:

1. Open the conversation you want to print.
2. On the right side of the screen, click Print all.

Are the down arrow and the Print all not showing?

Yes, they are showing, but nothing happens when I click on either one. No page appears, no print dialog box, nothing. BTW, I can forward and reply to all, etc. - the other actions when I click the down arrow.

Try the instructions for "Does not print to paper at all" on this page:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problems_printing_web_pages#Does_not_print_to_paper_at_all

Let me know your findings.

I will looking for other possible solutions.

Looking through Gmail help, I see that other people are having print problems that remain unresolved:

One suggestion on the Gmail site said that clearing your cache can resolve a lot of problems with Gmail. So try this, go to Tools > Options > Advanced > Network and click the "Clear Now" button. See if that helps.

I don't know if that will solve your problem. I will continue searching.

I have exactely the same problem!
I installed:
New Java (version 1.6.0_16)
Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape
Just to let you know it's not a single problem
and to mabe help you to narrow your search.
Good luck and looking forward to the answer!

My cache clears when I turn off my computer every day, but I did manually clear it and try to print - nothing. Reading the posts on the Gmail site leads me to think that it may be a Gmail + Firefox issue. Also, the first poster there reported this happening at almost the same time that it started for me. Is that a coincidence?

Reading the posts on the Gmail site leads me to think that it may be a Gmail + Firefox issue.

If you were successfully using Gmail with Firefox previously, it may be a change in the Gmail site. There was aWindows update on October 13 and if you have Automatic Updates turned on, then your system would have been updated on October 13-14. I have seen nothing thus far concerning problems relating to the recent "largest ever" round of updates from Microsoft.

Watch the 2 links I sent to you to see if a solution is found by those users as you say your problems started about the same time. Check a couple of times per day by clicking on those links to see if they have added other comments/posts.

You do need to update Java following these instructions:

Update Java
Your version is out of date. Use the Manual Update method under the Updates heading in the link below; it is very easy. Close Firefox before starting the update.

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using+the+Java+plugin+with+Firefox#Updates

When the update is complete
Go to the Java Control Panel (Windows Start > Settings > Control Panel > Java), click the Advanced tab and be sure that the same items are checked as in the attachment; then click Apply, click OK and the panel will close.

After updating Java, try Gmail again to see if that solved the problem.

Please post back with your findings.

It works with me now (after restart of my computer).

Thanks to the answer of _candid_ on your first link TXGuy!

I hope it works for you too cnolan!

Problem: It seems like gmail has a problem with tabblads ...
In Explorer a new window opens when you ask to "print all" (printing works here).
In Firefox a new tabblad opens when you ask to "print all" (printing doesn't work here, however...).
Solution: If gmail is your only tabblad in Firefox, then "print all" works, it also works when gmail is on your first tablad (or the tabblads before the gmail tabblad are Google-tabblads).

(Firefox 3.5.4 on Windows XP)

I updated Java and disabled " Java Quick Starter 1.0" but it doesn't still work.

I have 2 accounts gmail : 1 professional and 1 personal.
I can print with my personal gmail account, but not with my professional account, with the same computer......

What is the problem ?

Please help !!

Thanks

Thanks for all the suggestions. However . . . I updated to latest version of Java, disabled Java Quick Starter, rebooted and crossed my fingers - nada! Still no printing. And, adding insult to injury, everything about Firefox is so slow now. It takes so long for pages to load that the server sometimes cancels me out. I have to close my mail tab (GMail) to open web pages. When I type email messages the print on the page lags 10 or more words behind what I have just typed. Is this Firefox or Google? Help!
