I constantly get a "not responding" message rendering firefox(6.02) basically useless for 30+ seconds.

I tried troubleshooting ALL my extensions to no avail(though I checked and it doesn't seem to be a memory problem) It just happens pretty much at random. I tried downgrading to Firefox 4 and 5 put the problem persists. I have to reported it until now because I thought it was just a bug that would work itself out. At this rate I'll have no choice other than to switch to Chrome or Opera(which I REALLY don't want to do) Basically I went thru all the troubleshooting steps and nothing helped.

I have the same problem, I've looked at a lot of threads that talk about it 'not responding' and have done the same as twistedvincent, everything is updated to the newest version I also uninstalled and reinstalled. This only started happening after I updated to 6.02. The only difference from twistedvincent is mine is a laptop, also I tried Safe Mode and as soon as it restarted it went into 'not responding'...anyone know when a new update will come out? >__<

I tried everything on the list and ended up completely uninstalling firefox (using your uninstaller) and starting from scratch...installing each add on one by one. Fast dial and a couple others extensions would not install properly so I ended up going with a backup(from moz backup) Everything ran fine for about 24 hours and I just had my first "not responding" message 5 minutes ago. Do I have to go thru this process all over again??

Really frustrating....

Maybe some add-on or theme is causing this.

Troubleshooting extensions and themes

Check and tell if its working.

As I said, the first thing I did was to troubleshoot all of my add-ons/themes using this method: Note: If you have a large number of extensions, it may be quicker to enable more than one extension at a time. The method with the fewest number of restarts required is: Enable half the extensions in this list, then restart Firefox and test for the problem. If the problem reoccurs, you know that the faulty extension is one of the ones you just enabled. If the problem does not occur, you know the faulty extension is one of the disabled ones. Repeat the process until the faulty extension is found. I would have it narrowed down to what I thought was the guilty extension but then suddenly the problem would stop and I'd have to start the process over. After the second time I gave up as it was too time consuming and was giving erratic results. I am unwilling to go that route AGAIN. Hence my attempt at a complete reinstall, but my extensions (fast dial and others) wouldn't install properly. Needless to say I'm at an impasse.....find the solution to my problem....quickly or reluctantly switch to Google chrome and not have 1/2 the features/extensions that I have/use everyday.

Create a New Profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

-> Basic Troubleshooting: Make a New Profile

IF that New Profile works then you can recover your Bookmarks and Passwords from the Old Profile.

-> Recovering important data from an old profile

Check and tell if its working.
