Issue

Firefox is crashing or closing unexpectedly

Description

Firefox 3.5.5 crashes every time it installs. As soon as Firefox starts, I load Gmail and Yahoo mail and Yahoo Finance without a problem. When I go to the Yahoo main page Firefox crashes to the point where I have to go to a restore point to get rid of this latest version of Firefox. The previous version of Firefox works fine until it automatically updates to the newest version. This has been occurring for weeks and I can't keep Firefox from updating itself. As much as I dislike Internet Explorer, I may have to quit using Firefox.

I am having this problem as well.
I have only had one other version of firefox crash on me this bad and that was back in 2.0 era.

Since then firefox has been perfect. But with this latest 3.5.5 update, firefox will open as usual.
But then as soon as I type in any web address it will crash on me again.
Yadayadayada it might have fixed security bugs, but what good is that if it doesnt work right?

Im going to downgrade to 3.5.4 and then leave it at that for a few weeks until they come out with a better update.

I have the same issue. Firefox is "hogging"RAM and crashing the browser left and right (worse than normal). How do I "undo" this "Update"??

Thanks for the reply Twirp. The main problem I'm having is Firefox keeps replacing version 3.5.4 with 3.5.5 automatically and I can't seem to stop it.

same problem

I also had the same problem with 3.5.4

I found a link on a support forum where I could download 3.5.3, which I did, and it worked fine until firefox updated itself, now it just crashes

I have uninstalled it and would love to use firefox again if I could get it to work

com updated firefox version 357 now. the show & tell guys are speaking in a foreign language, for about 2 seconds, then everything stops! what to do? atelierflorina op comcast.net

I have ZoneAlarm with ForceField and I had the same problem, crashed everytime it was trying to load Firefox 3.5.5, however I discovered that if I turn off Forcefield it loads up fine.

So, this appears to be, at least in my case, a problem between the 3.5.5 update and the ZoneAlarm ForceField feature. If you are running ZA turn off FF for now and problem solved. I'm sure they'lf figure it out and one or both of the products will get updated with a patch.

I did a bit more research and found that you can disable "virtualization" in Forcefield and leave ForceField on (albeit somewhat degraded in protection) and that ZA is planning a fix via automatic update in the near future.

Ha ha, there may be a few more problems half of this page is displaying in English, the buttons and post submission stuff is in German or Dutch or something...

Each new release since updating from 3.5.3(worked fine) has been a nightmare!

My firefox 3.5.5 keeps crashing every time I open two or more different gmail accounts or pages with lots of ajax stuff. It started to happen with last update.

I cant see the format of mail mailing box on google mail or of my posts in view mode on wordpress, the 3.5.5 version I've just installed is doing that. How can I fix it?

The fix that I used for now was going back to version 3.5.3 ,FileHippo has all the different versions and using Mozbackup makes it fast and easy to keep all of your settings and add ons!

I did find a bug with one of my addons called VLC Media player plugin.

It was not compatible with one of the windows media plugins thus it was causing my crashes.

Disabling it did not work, so I uninstalled VLC, then reinstalled again and did not add the plugin. This seems to have fixed my problem.

This might help others if they have the same plugin.

I have not had any crashes since uninstalling the VLC.

good luck all.

Happens to me to. Constantly, doesn't matter what type of website. pick up your game Firefox. off to Chrome I go

Firefox 3.5.5. running under Ubuntu (64-bit) is crashing all the time, I cannot surf the net properly anymore.

Same for me. Running 3.5.5 on Windows NT - just started hanging frequently when 2 or more tabs open. VERY annoying and frustrating. Was this update even tested?

Crashing every 10-15 minutes here, too. Just after the 3.5.5 update. XP Prof 4GB RAM, inside a proxy at work.

FF 3.5.5 didn't work at all in my new home laptop (Gateway NV52 series) with Vista Home Prem. The location bar wouldn't accept keyboard shortcuts, nor would it allow me to press "enter" to search. Even after changing the options to "true" - it refused to work.

Downloaded 3.2 and everything was good.

Same here. Since 3.0 firefox has been behaving VERY unreliable. Keeps crashing all the time.

Going to switch to chrome or opera.

Ok, the home laptop is OK now. I updated to 3.5.5 from 3.0 and everything mysteriously worked again. I didn't change anything!

At work, I disabled my LogMeIn Pro add-on, uninstalled it and FF was fine! I reinstalled the SAME LogMeIn add-on and....still OK! What the ****?

So, this isn't really a solution, but more of a "it worked for me" guide.

same problem here, running vista 32bit. uninstalled all adons except for noscript and still crashes. switching to chrome

also I had to reload this page 3x because it kept crashing while I was entering this luls

Version 3.5.5 is bugging out. It doesn't crash as often as some have reported but I also have minimal themes/add ons

I hate to say this is but it's becoming a deal breaker with Firefox
